We visited the private museum of Jordi Tarrés

Coinciding with the closing of the 2021 X-Trial World Championship at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, we try to organize a small tour of Catalonia, the cradle of trial and the headquarters of the factories. On that trip, a visit to Jordi Tarrés’ museum could not be missed.

If you remember well, in the middle of the pandemic we spoke with Jordi Tarrés in an interesting Instagram live, where the 7-time world champion opened the doors of his museum to us, as well as talking at length about his position on the current context of this sport.

Picking up the baton from that video, we took the opportunity to arrange a visit to his private museum with Jordi, to which he agreed with the kindness and passion that characterizes him. So there we were, at 9 o’clock in the morning, contemplating that house that we had seen so many times in specialized motorcycle magazines. Surrounded by the mountains of Rellinars, where the myth of a rider who forever changed the way of riding and evolving trial bikes was forged.

JORDI TARRÉS’ MOTORCYCLES

Jordi Tarrés has managed to keep all the trophies and the most iconic motorcycles of his sporting career.

In his garage he has some motorcycles, such as the GASGAS JTR from 1996, a Beta Zero Gara, precursor of Techno, the first mold of what was Jotagas, and countless components and special parts that, at some point, served to test or invent technical solutions.

It also retains most of the helmets from his professional career, reminding us of the quality of the sponsors that existed at the time, where there were no restrictions on tobacco companies or brands of alcoholic beverages. Today it would be unthinkable.

THE JORDI TARRÉS MUSEUM

In a different room you can access the museum itself. An absolutely extraordinary journey through the history of trial, where you don’t have to be a fan to perceive the passion and importance that trial had in the 80s and 90s. Very elaborate trophies, of great magnitude, with noble materials, well worked… far from what we see today.

There are hundreds of trophies in the museum, so taking into account the short professional career of Jordi Tarrés (retired at the age of 31), it gives us an idea of the number of sporting events that were held at the time.

Four very special bikes reign supreme in this museum: the Beta TR34 with which he won his first world title, the Beta TR34 prototype with an aluminum chassis that ended up leading to the Beta Zero, and two GASGAS: the 1993 Contact model and the 1995 GASGAS JT.

Currently, Jordi Tarrés is a partner and technical father of the TRS Motorcycles brand, which manufactures trial bikes and has been runner-up in the world championship since its first season, in 2016.
