Scorpa SC Factory 125 2022 Test: “Very stable and easy to squeeze”

Scorpa is a brand that symbolizes the rebirth of iconic brands that filled the trials of the nineties. It presented its first model in 1993, with the Works 294 model, and from there began a stage with a relatively humble prominence until 2009, when Sherco bought the French brand and incorporated it into its production chain. As of 2015, Scorpa and Sherco are 95% the same, differing only in chassis and bodywork.

In this article we are going to analyze the 125cc version. A key displacement in the technical development of young riders, who go from smaller motorcycles in engine and dimensions, to measurements that are already identical to that of any larger displacement. Basically, they differ in power and weight.

For this reason, it is essential that the leap in displacement is faced with guarantees in terms of age (experience and build are two key points) and overall performance of the whole.

Throughout this content we are going to explain the technical structure of the Scorpa SC Factory 125 and two child riders from Trialworld will explain its keys.

WE HAVE TWO JUNIOR DRIVERS FOR THE TEST

Nico Carrasco, Trialworld and Scorpa Academy rider, previously owned a Vertigo Vertical 125; Álvaro Ruiz, on the other hand, owns a TRRS One R 125. Both can perfectly explain to us how this process of adaptation and technical evolution is in the riding of a 125cc.

SCORPA SC 125 VS SHERCO ST 125?

As in enduro with KTM, GASGAS and Husqvarna, the model of uniting the synergies of the same owner to build two different brands seems clearly on the right track.

In trial, this case had not occurred until 2016, when Sherco reassembled the front tank and took the current Scorpa Twenty as the basis of the work. Since then, both brands have evolved in parallel, but maintaining differences in Scorpa’s DNA: the cycle part.

Effectively. The chassis has always been Scorpa’s strong point and that trend continues. Compared to the Sherco, the geometries vary at the level of the engine tie rods, allowing the radiator to be lowered from the front, while in the Sherco this same operation must be done from the inside.

The geometries of the rear are also different, allowing an air filter box with greater volume and, consequently, better lung and performance for the engine.

Top Components

As with most brands on the market, there is a base model, usually called Racing, and a higher one, which goes by the name of Factory, GP, or RR. Well, Scorpa also maintains that line and, the bike that concerns us today, is the Factory version (top of the range).

The differences between the Racing and Factory models are basically the suspensions and finishes. The share of the Factory model is over 90%, so the base model is practically forgotten within the catalog. of Scorpa.

FIRST CONTACT

The first thing that strikes you about the Scorpa is its exclusivity and great finishes. The orange color in combination with black gives it personality and a very racing look.

On the other hand, it is full of good components, such as the aluminum Tech fork, Braktec braking system, Reiger two-way shock, anodized cylinder head, linkage and eccentrics, machined seatposts, S3 Parts footpegs…

Visually, it differs from the Sherco, in addition to the graphics, by the front optics. And being more meticulous, with the lines of the frame, as we mentioned before.

Below we tell you the differences compared to the Factory 2021 model.

Álvaro Ruiz's opinion

Álvaro Ruiz is a Trialworld rider and a TRRS One R 125cc rider, so he fully understands the reactions of an eighth-litre trial bike.

In these personal assessments, 13-year-old Álvaro summarises his impressions at the controls of the 2022 Scorpa SC Factory 125:

“Nowadays, there are many options on the market for a child to start enjoying a trial bike.

At the earliest ages, we can find a wide enough variety of options to choose from, especially among electric models. But these options are far from a traditional trial bike, so the techniques and riding that are learned on these bikes are very simple, lacking elements such as the clutch, or incorporating very basic suspensions, components and engines. In intermediate ages this variety is reduced quite a bit, but in return, we have bikes that start to look more like a real trial bike.

Like 80cc combustion bikes. that brands like Beta and Gas Gas still produce. On these bikes you can start to apply much more trial techniques.

The next step, which is the one we are dealing with today, is that of 125cc motorcycles (in our opinion children from 11 years old if they have experience, or about 12 or 13 if it is their first motorcycle) From here, it is where we can say that we already have a real trial bike, which is ridden in the same way as a “big” bike. With these bikes you can do “real” trials.

In addition, it is from this displacement where all brands, except for those that only make 4t motorcycles, are involved and have fully developed models. Therefore, the options are expanded again when it comes to choosing a frame.

Today we have a beautiful 2022 Scorpa SC FACTORY 125cc in our hands. A true racing bike with which you can do areas of the highest level.

The first thing that catches the eye is its orange color, which together with black gives it a different, but racing and aggressive appearance. Good finishes and overall look.

The stance is a bit different from the bike I usually use, especially wide in the footpegs and very thin in the lower area of the tank. Something to be thankful for when you have to bend down and put your knees forward.

We give it “the kick” and the sound is also different, smoother and finer, with pistones more often. Which tells us that it’s also going to be a very different look to my usual bike.
Put 1st in and start warming up. The development is correct and easy, you can do a lot of things in 1st.

The engine revs very fast, with little bass but quickly revs, and that’s where it offers its power in a sweet, easy and controllable way.
Once hot, we get into more serious stuff. The bike handles well in shifts, feels light and the suspensions propel you but at the same time give you a lot of stability when falling. I really liked this aspect.

When it comes to accelerating in front of a step, the bike revs very well and the clutch, even though it is slower than I’m used to, behaves nobly. It takes off with agility and when it comes to contact with the step, the suspensions absorb in a very stable way.

We did a dirt ramp with little traction at the start and a step at the top, and the bike behaved very well throughout the course. Both at the start and when I hit the step, everything was easy and I didn’t feel out of control at any time.

Maybe that’s the strength of this bike, how easy it makes everything, especially the stability it offers at all times, at a standstill, in turns, on ramps and in receptions. That together with the smooth engine and how well it tractions, make it very easy to ride, and that translates into efficiency when facing the areas and makes it a very good option for beginners. We can say that it has a wide range of end users, both children who take the step to this displacement, as well as expert pilots for competition.

All bikes have their strengths and weaknesses, and the Scorpa from the beginning allows me to do many things better. In others, on the other hand, she asks me to adapt, but it’s a matter of understanding her and doing things the way she likes.”

Nicolas Carrasco's opinion

“I’m Nicolas Carrasco, a rider for Scorpa Academy and Trialworld. I joined the Scorpa Academy more than three months ago, and the experience has been spectacular, the adaptation phase to the bike has been very fast and the feelings about it are very positive.

The bike has helped me to improve my riding from the very beginning, achieving an improvement in my performance in these last months.

I would highlight the solidity of its chassis and geometry that transmit a lot of confidence to my driving style. In addition, I love being part of a project in its initial phase where there is a great atmosphere, and this challenge led by top riders and Trialworld motivates me a lot.

I’m convinced that in the coming months we’re going to see a lot of orange riders in all the races. Finally, I want to thank the team for the trust they have given me and for all the support I have received.”
