Yamaha will return to the Trial World Championship. It will do so with a 100% electric model that has been presented at the Tokyo Motor Show: the electric Yamaha TY-E. The brand’s main ambassador in this discipline, Kenichi Kuroyama, will make his debut with it on July 14 and 15 in the Trial-E category of the French GP.
The Yamaha TY-E comes from the “Evolving R&D” program, in which R+D employees can devote up to 5% of their working hours to the development of innovative projects. Some of them, like the Yamaha TY-E, end up becoming a reality.
The objective of the project was to create a first-class
electric trial motorcycle
, for which it had to combine power and lightness as basic premises. One of the key points is the clutch, whose operation in electric motors has great particularities. And
In this case, it is a hydraulically actuated mechanical clutch, designed to modulate the engine’s power in critical situations, such as large obstacles or situations where a very precise feel is required, and even increase engine revolutions quickly.
The engine surprises with the incorporation of a flywheel to obtain reactions more similar to those of a combustion engine. It also stands out for its small dimensions and large bass.
Regarding the batteries, they are lithium-ion, although key data such as autonomy, power or full charge time have not been disclosed.
In short, this is a revolutionary and very well finished motorcycle, with a competitive weight of less than 70 kilos and top quality components such as a Tech fork or a frame made of a carbon fibre reinforced plastic composite called CFRP.
