Toni Bou remains undefeated in the National Trial Championship

Toni Bou continues his winning streak in 2017. After winning the current edition of the X-Trial World Championship and the opening round of the national Trial Championship, the rider from Piera won the second round of the national championship, held last Sunday in the town of Sigüenza.
In the context of a tough and technical trial, with long sections and large steps, it was foreseeable that it would be a race of high scores and maximum equality between the favorites. And so it was. Everyone made mistakes, including Bou and Raga, but this did not prevent both favourites from reaching the last zone with a chance of victory.

Raga was the first to run into problems, dragging a five in zone one, which a priori did not present complications for the TR1. This forced him to continue to come back in the race and work with maximum concentration. Toni Bou continued to set the pace of the race, even though he opened up sections and drove without references from his rivals. He was also not spared from problems, in this case mechanical, since in the middle of the area a clutch bolt jumped and there were moments of tension throughout the team.

In the end, only four points separated Bou and Raga in the final standings. Behind the duo of favourites, seven points behind, we find Albert Cabestany, followed by a double tie between Jorge Casales and Jeromi Fajardo, with an advantage for the former of them.

Sixth position for Jaime Busto, followed by Miquel Gelabert and James Dabill. Further back, Arnau Farre, Eddie Karlsson, Oriol Noguera and Marc Riba closed the TR1 classification.

As for TR2, the silver category of CET 2017, the victory went to Gabriel Marcellí for the second consecutive race with a total of 3 points; 2 less than Aniol Gelabert, second, and 21 less than Sam Obradó, third in the end.

In the rest of the levels in action, the winners have been the following riders: Sergio Moreno, in TR3 and in his return to the championship; Adrià Albejano, in TR4; Martín Riobo, in Junior; and Álex Canales, in Cadet.

DECLARATIONS

Toni Bou:

“I had to open the sections today and, despite having some complications, we were able to get through this race and this was thanks to everyone’s work. It’s a very important victory, because we were able to finish at the front, which wasn’t easy at all. The trial was a bit more complicated than yesterday, because in the end, the organisers changed the sections to more difficult and I liked it.”

Adam Raga:

“In the end I was second, but I’m happy with the race I did. In the first section I made a mistake that penalized me a lot throughout the trial, but I was happy with the bike and the team. We’re working well, we’re three races very close to victory and hopefully that moment will come soon, as that’s the ultimate goal.”

Jaime Busto:

“It wasn’t a good day, but I think I improved a bit from the previous race. Yesterday it looked like an easy trial, but they took away the help and the level was a bit higher. I’ve also made some mistakes, so I can’t be too happy, but I hope to get better in the next tests.”

Miquel Gelabert:

“It was a weird race overall. I started in the first group with Toni and Adam, but they were going very fast and practically didn’t let me see the areas. These riders always push and try to go fast. I failed and I did, although the bike also worked so-so. However, we have to keep working to stay closer to the podium. I can’t deny that I’m unhappy with this result after the podium in Mallorca. We must keep working.”

Albert Cabestany:

“I liked it a bit more than in previous years because there was some more technical step, but in general terms there is a rather aggressive trend to attract riders. I was saying that I’m tired of doing third gears and it would be nice to do more second gear with some more technical steps. A little more combination would be nice. Overall, I’m happy with the podium after the bad start in Mallorca. It’s a pity that we missed zones 5 and 9, that having passed them we would be closer to Toni.”
