Montesa has confirmed the changes for its 2018 range, which is available now. Apart from the new livery in the standard version of the Montesa Cota 4RT260 2018 and the Montesa 4Ride 2018, these models have a series of improvements that make them even more competitive.

One of the most striking aspects of the Cota 4RT260 and Race Replica is the new skid plate, identical to the one fitted to the Repsol Honda Team Trial Cota 4RT racing plate, with which world champion Toni Bou and teammate Takahisa Fujinami compete. This new skid plate is made of a stronger aluminium alloy, which guarantees, in addition to greater durability, better protection of the engine against any impact.

In this sense, both the Cota 4RT260 and Race Replica as well as the 4Ride will be equipped as standard with a transmission sprocket protector, whose function is to protect the crankcase against possible chain breakage.

The overall feel of Montesa’s revamped trial bikes has been significantly improved thanks to a thoroughly revised brake and clutch system. So much so, that the Cota 4RT260 and Race Replica will now be equipped with the same brake and clutch master cylinder as the Cota 300RR, its more racing-oriented big brother. The package has also been improved with new brake calipers (which remain monobloc in the case of the Race Replica), which ensure greater fixation and great stopping power.

Other changes include a shorter starter lever on the 4Ride to make it easier to get the bike going.

As for the thermodynamic groupset, the Cota 4RT260, Race Replica and 4Ride continue to rely on the reliable and competitive 260cc 4-stroke engine, powered by an electronic injection system, low maintenance cost, which offers a full power curve especially at low and medium revs. In the 4Ride, more adventure orientation or trial excursion, the gearbox has been adapted to this purpose. While on trial bikes the gear shift ratio is very short to tackle the most demanding areas with an immediate response on the throttle grip, on the 4Ride the five gears have a longer ratio.

Regarding the chassis part, the Race Replica model maintains the prestigious set of SHOWA front and rear suspensions of the highest quality that continue to be a benchmark in trial. In the case of the Cota 4RT260, it has a set of high-level suspensions, but at the same time with a much more contained cost. The front suspension is signed by TECH, while the rear relies on a lightweight R16V multi-adjustable shock absorber, a highly efficient suspension set that results in a greater feeling of lightness.

The Montesa 4Ride relies on the lightweight aluminium frame and swingarm that equips the Cota 4RT260. One of the most important features of the 4Ride is the incorporation of the seat, thus varying the ergonomics of the motorcycle, which now seeks greater comfort and ease of riding given its more adventurous orientation. Under the seat, which is easy to disassemble without the need for tools, we find an important cargo space where we can store, for example, a jacket, gloves and some other objects that can be useful on our excursion.

Another aspect to highlight, especially taking into account its more adventure excursion orientation, is the extension of the fuel tank from the 1.9 liters of the trials to the 4.4 liters of this one, which means an approved range of about 120 km.

In terms of suspension, the adjustable TECH fork is 38 mm higher and has 24 mm more travel than the Cota 4RT260 to ensure maximum performance, handling and ride comfort. Thus, the R16V rear suspension, also multi-adjustable, although it maintains the same travel as the Cota 4RT260, is 12 mm higher.

The Cota 4RT260 and Race Replica, along with the Cota 300RR and 4Ride, continue to be manufactured exclusively and for everyone at Montesa Honda’s state-of-the-art facilities in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, Barcelona. It should be noted that all the welding processes, engine assembly, plastic injection, the manufacture of the fuel tank and the swingarm, as well as the production of the aluminum frames, are carried out in the factory, in order to guarantee the high levels of quality and reliability of the brand.
