Jack Carthy, 2021 UCI Elite 26″ Trial World Champion

The men’s Elite 26″ competition looked like a mere formality, as Great Britain’s Jack Carthy reached the final with 760 points.

The three-time UCI world champion seemed determined to regain the crown he lost to Spain’s Sergi Llongueras back in 2019, when he had to settle for bronze. Last year’s postponement due to the pandemic seemed to make Carthy more motivated than ever. France’s Nicolas Vallée, who won silver in 2019, qualified second with 570 points. Spain’s Julen Saenz de Ormijana was third with 540 points.

CARTHY PREVENTS SPANISH RULE

As expected, Carthy’s incredible consistency led to an impressive 160 points at the halfway point.

The next best participant, Frenchman Vincent Hermance, was 40 points behind. The final race proved to be almost a formality for Carthy, as with a total of 270 points she eclipsed her competition. Carthy had won his fourth Elite 26 title.”

But it wasn’t Hermance who took the silver. He had to settle for bronze after Saenz de Ormijana’s 60 points in the final round matched Hermance’s 210: but the Spaniard won thanks to being the only one of the two to record a 60-point run in the final.
