Interview with Jorge Casales: “In 2021 they put me as a garbage pilot, but I have recycled”

Jorge Casales is rising from the ashes. Never, better said. After a 2021 to forget in every way, the Galician rider He has regained his enthusiasm and desire to compete with his arrival at the official Scorpa team, a sister structure of Sherco, where he has a bike and resources that allow him to face a 2022 season with a very different approach.

How important is the bike and the equipment for a rider? Jorge Casales is very clear about this. After an absolutely dramatic 2021, where nothing was going his way and which ended with the bilateral rupture between him and GASGAS, a change was necessary. At the end of the year he joined the official Scorpa team, which until then did not have a rider in the top category, and agreed on team parameters that would allow him to return to the highest level with guarantees.

Few expected to see Jorge Casales competitive in 2022, but with his start in CET, where he has added a podium and a fourth position, it invites us to think that the Galician is ready to return to who he was. Nothing less than one of the best drivers in the world and one of those called to fight among the favorites for the title among the new generations.

"The truth is that it was a very bad year for me. Chaos. I had problems all over the place. I got a lot of criticism. The team, and everyone in general, used to put me as a pilot in the container, but I have recycled. Never give up and keep fighting for your dreams."

We spoke to Jorge at the end of the first day of the CET in Arteixo with a podium.

Remembering 2021 with Casales “The truth is that it was a very bad year for me. Chaos. I had problems all over the place. I got a lot of criticism. The team, and everyone in general, used to put me as a pilot in the container, but I have recycled. Never give up and keep fighting for your dreams.”

The arrival of Scorpa to the official team has been a breath of fresh air; “Throughout these three months with Scorpa I feel very happy, the team has worked hard so that I can adapt to the bike and that was noticeable today in the race. We arrived in Arteixo strong, but I didn’t expect to make second in the first race. Without a doubt, it shows me that if we continue this line of work we can achieve important results this season. I think I have a perfect team this year, with the help of Isma and Lluis I have taken a big step forward, they have put a lot into me and are very involved in my doubts. We agree very well on how we set the goals and the races, but above all I’m happy. I want to go to training every day and I’m very motivated.”

As for the bike he rides, a Scorpa SC 300 Factory, which is very similar to the Sherco (except for the chassis and bodywork) The Scorpa has surprised me, it is the best for me. It has a very powerful and stable clutch; The engine is very versatile, with a lot of bass and a bike in general with a great chassis and easy to ride.

What can we expect from Jorge Casales in the next races? Actually, we have only seen a first contact in competition, but for the Scorpa rider “Today on the podium was very important. It is likely that it will be difficult to repeat this position, but the important thing is that the level and the riding is there. We’re competitive against the rest of the drivers and that’s what we need.”
