TRS Raga Racing and TRS One 2017 Comparison

TRS Motorcycles has earned the respect and admiration of riders and fans in record time. The company was established in mid-2013 and in 2016 they already had two world runner-up finishes and two world team titles in their cabinet. Their star rider,
Adam Raga
, was able to get off a veteran bike like the Gas Gas and achieve great results at the controls of the TRS from day one.
To understand the context of
TRS Motorcycles
, you have to look at the strong team of professionals behind the project. Jordi Tarrés is the most popular figure and is undoubtedly a key part of the success, but so are his engineers, the competition team and the management staff.

The
TRS One
was launched on the market just over a year ago and since then the factory has not been able to meet the demand of future customers. In itself the bike is not revolutionary in any section compared to the competition, they have simply achieved a perfect harmony of geometries and components that give the One a special personality that we are going to delve into.
It is important to note that there are already two editions of the TRS One on the market: the 2016 range and the
TRS One 2017
. However, it is really the same bike and in this evolution only the clutch system has been worked on to gain in smoothness, speed and reliability. The adhesives vary only on the frame.

This bike is where Adam Raga has worked throughout the 2016 season. Logically, during this time he has been introducing evolutions in his racing bike, providing it with more exclusive components and a more explosive mechanical behavior. The sum of all elements already justified an increase in the One range for the Spanish brand. Its war acronym evidences its positioning: RR (Raga Racing).

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A TRS ONE AND A TRS RAGA RACING?

Basically, the differences are at the level of components, although there are also aesthetic nuances. The main one is that its aluminum chassis is white, but without changing its geometries. It should be noted that the driving position is somewhat further back, but this is due to the new S3 parts footpegs, not structural changes to the frame.

At the front, there is a new Tech fork with aluminium bars that receive a new treatment, complemented by steering posts with a more Racing and light look. Continuing with the front of the bike, we find a new monoblock brake caliper from Braktec’s Powerparts range. Both the master cylinder and clutch are equipped with red anodized caps, matching the fork bottle caps and the RR initials.
Probably the jewel in the crown is the new two-way Reiger shock absorber, adjustable in spring preload, rebound and compression.

Focusing on the mechanical differences, we find a 28mm Keihin carburetor. (Dell’Orto 26mm. on the One), a lower, more compressed cylinder distribution, new power curves on its CDI, and a titanium exhaust manifold.
The list of upgrades incorporated into the Raga Racing is completed by a lightened rear wheel, FIM homologated transmission kit, man overboard system and adjustable gas grip.
The TRS “RR”, like the TRS One, is available with 250, 280 and 300cc engines. A new 125cc version with an exhaust valve is expected to arrive in September.

TRS ONE VS TRS RR: WHICH IS BETTER?

Before getting into the matter, we would like to thank Motos J. Martín and Jesús Martín, official TRS dealer in Arenas de San Pedro (Ávila), for their selfless collaboration to make this comparison possible.
From the Trialworld team we have already carried out an
in-depth test of the TRS One 250 and 300 2017
that will help you to better understand the sensations that we will develop next.
TRS One Raga Racing 2017
For most enthusiasts, there really isn’t one bike better than another. The One is a bike that stands out for its extraordinary harmony: it is light, stable, agile and intuitive. One of those bikes with which you quickly empathize and it is easy to feel comfortable to squeeze the potential you need.
TRS One Raga Racing 2017
Probably the point that stands out the most about the One is its poise and stability. Despite its great lightness (65 kilos) it is easy to balance and carry it in place, allowing for a light and intuitive ride. In short, it’s easy to do trials with it. The Tech fork is fabulous and its R16V shock is truly appreciative in its response in both rebound and compression.

THE KEYS

In this section, RR has other virtues. The riding position is designed to favour a more rear-wheel-based riding and that is noticeable from the moment you get behind the controls, without sacrificing the aforementioned poise, but it likes the bounce more than the line. In terms of suspension, the big difference is in the rear end.
TRS One Raga Racing 2017
Between the R16V and the Reiger we noticed more efficiency and speed in the shock extension. It literally catapults the bike to the top of the obstacle as long as you know how to compress it well. We noticed that the R16V is quicker in compression, although this will probably be more due to a set-up and running aspect of the Reiger than the behaviour itself. In addition, we remind you that it is adjustable.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING THE RIGHT DISPLACEMENT

Mechanically, you can’t finish the TRS One. What’s more, we recommend opting for the 250 or 280 displacement if the pretensions are not of a high technical level, since the 300 is forceful and aggressive.
Well, now imagine one more performance plus in each displacement. The Keihin and the modifications in the CDI help to make the response faster throughout the rev range, so you will have to think very carefully about which displacement you choose if you are not going to practice a very high-level trial.
TRS One 300 2017
In short, any replica or factory bike has an intrinsic value in terms of exclusivity and quality of its components. Aesthetics also count, especially if your spirit is Racing, and the RR captivates with its sportiness.
If, in addition to the image, your trial pretensions are very high, opt for this version. On the other hand, if your level is more basic and you don’t need as much engine, our advice, we insist, is a 250 or 280.
TRS One 300 2017
The One range offers a more conservative aesthetic and the components are good enough that most of us mortals would never need a Raga Racing. If you choose this model you won’t regret it and you can also save the 600€ difference between the One and the Raga Racing.
You can also watch it the other way around. And it is that only the Reiger shock separately costs more than 700€, so it is more profitable to buy the Raga Racing if you think that that shock should be on your bike indisputably.
TRS One 300 Trial
The price of the TRS One is €6,700 and the price of the TRS One Raga Racing is €7,299

THE CONCLUSION OF THE PILOT: CHEMA QUER

chema querThe rider has to be prepared to benefit from the performance of a racing bike. The clutch delivers all its power in just one millimetre, the shock absorber is faster in extension and the behaviour of the brakes requires great precision so as not to block the assembly. If you’re not ready to benefit from all of the attributes, your model is the standard one. You will enjoy more docile reactions and the behavior of the suspensions of both axles will help us to absorb the dirt better.
