TRRS Raga Racing 2019 test

TRS Motorcycles burst onto the market in 2016 backed by a great professional and sporting team, whose most popular faces are Jordi Tarrés and Adam Raga.

At that time, only one model, called One, was presented in three displacements. Today, the 2019 range is made up of four models , three of them trial, which in scale from lowest to highest range are: TRRS One, TRRS Raga Racing and
TRRS Gold
. The fourth model is the brand new
TRRS X-Track
, a proposal based on the
concept of trial-excursion
, with a trial base and equipped with specific components to increase its versatility.

The TRRS Raga Racing is the great bestseller of the Spanish brand based in Santpedor, province of Barcelona. The first saga was born in 2017, offering the market a variant with better components compared to the One, which in turn leads to an increase in the final price. Let’s take a look at the changes that have been the common denominator between the One and the Raga Racing during these editions.

GENERAL DIFFERENCES TRRS ONE VS RAGA RACING

· Reiger two-way shock (RR) instead of R16V (One)
· Steel Tech fork (RR), while the One carries another range of Tech with aluminium bars.
· Braktec Powerparts Monoblock (RR) front brake assembly, instead of standard Braktec (One)
· Keihin carburetor (RR) instead of Dell’Orto (One)
· Neken Handlebar (RR)
· Man Overboard (RR) stop system
· Depending on the year, there are also changes to the clutch and certain mechanical components

WHAT’S NEW IN TRRS RAGA RACING 2019

The great evolution of the
TRRS Raga Racing was in 2018
, since in addition to mounting a more powerful suspension system, it coincided with the implementation of numerous mechanical evolutions that largely improved the clutch system, mechanical parts (crankshaft, tolerances, secondary axle, gear selector…). This mechanical evolution was called the “Engine Revolution”.

In Raga Racing the list of novelties is interesting, but there are fewer relevant aspects. At the chassis level , the suspensions vary their “settings” in both trains, the linkage set has been reinforced and receives new clutch and front brake pumps (the brake caliper is also new). The easel is also new.
Mechanically , work has been carried out on the reliability of the water pump, the carburetion settings, the cylinder distribution, the CDI maps and the mechanization of the engine covers.
Finally, the graphics are new, retaining the white frame characteristic of the “Raga Racing” models.

DYNAMIC TESTING

At Trialworld we have had the opportunity to thoroughly test all TRS ranges and displacements since its inception in 2016. This time we are at the controls of a 250cc version and a 280cc version. And to further fine-tune the sensations, we were accompanied on the day by another tester from our team that owns the previous model, the TRRS Raga Racing 2018.

First of all, it should be noted that this is a very balanced and efficient bike, both mechanically and in terms of the chassis part. The first sensation when you get behind the controls is that of great stability and poise. Its riding position is comfortable, rather low and rearward, making it easier to find balance and traction. Let’s remember that the RR is equipped with
the S3 Curve footpegs
, which in addition to being adjustable, have a small front inclination to improve the riding sensations on the rear axle.
In terms of controls, good ergonomics of the new Neken handlebars and great feel of the Braktec controls. By the way, the monobloc brake caliper has been redesigned on the inside, now featuring a central pin. Another novelty is that both pumps now have a hinge-type closure, so with a single screw we can adjust or regulate the pump. In terms of performance, we have plenty of power and precision for even the most demanding riders.

Another point where the
TRRS Raga Racing 2019
has evolved the most are the finishes. The qualities of components such as brake or gear pedals, technical solutions such as a new exhaust silentblock or the suspension section have been significantly improved.
Precisely, the two-way Reiger shock absorber and the Tech fork are one of the most relevant differentiating points of the new RR compared to its predecessor and the One range, which is equipped at the back by Ollé.

Where can you see the differences between the two shock absorbers?
Basically in its speed and capable of absorption in strong receptions or obstacles. In addition, the Reiger offers the possibility of adjustment, something especially interesting for those who have a weight that is not in the range of 70 – 75 kilos, which is the reference weight for the setting of these shock absorbers.
The front fork, in addition to an impressive aesthetic with its gold finish, is precise and very effective. In addition, it is adjustable in extension and compression. In the brake section, we also have a spectacular performance of the Braktec set, especially at the front. It is important to note that the
Braktec monobloc front brake caliper
, despite the fact that aesthetically it is practically identical to last year’s, receives improvements in its interior and dynamically more forcefulness and power is appreciated in braking.

It’s time to talk about the mechanics of RR 2019. It is an agile engine in the way up the revs, progressive and intuitive. It offers familiar sensations from the first moment, something that makes it easier to adapt and the fact of being able to squeeze the most out of its performance.
In this test we tested the 250 and 2800cc mechanics, although we also had the opportunity to get on a 300cc. After testing all the mechanical variants, we consider the most interesting to be the 280cc, for its balance between feel and power. It is not as tiring as the “three hundred” and for any medium-high level rider the performance is more than enough.
For the average fan our recommendation is even the 250cc version. It is a more permissive engine with touch errors, it is the one that pulls the best and it is also hilarious, since it invites you to lose respect for it by turning it up with confidence. In addition, as the RR has a Keihin carburetor, this quarter of a liter has that point of explosiveness that we may need in the most demanding moments.

As we have mentioned before, one of the sections in which the 2019 model has evolved the most is the clutch. It’s not that 2018 performed poorly, but there was room for improvement. The result in 2019 is a more progressive and easy-to-dose clutch. For our taste, the result is excellent.

CONCLUSIONS ON THE TRRS RAGA RACING 2019

Overall, the TRRS RR 2019 is arguably the most complete bike on the market. Leader in lightness with only 64 kilos of curb weight, but well poised, as well as efficient for all riding styles. The 2019 model maintains the essence that characterizes the TRRS since 2016, being easy to ride and reliable motorcycles, but with the plus of incorporating new technical solutions and components that makes it a great option for all audiences.
It also enjoys optimal mechanical accessibility; For example, the air filter is removed without tools once the top cover is removed, and the oil can be changed from either side of the engine. Another good example is that the spark plug is removed without the need to remove the reservoir.

And the truth is that it is worth the economic difference between an RR (€7,399) and a ONE (€5,999). First, because the value of the components does justify this differential, and secondly because the second-hand market. With so many “RRs” being sold and growing in popularity, it seems that ONEs are becoming less in demand on the second-hand market as well.
Another interesting aspect when buying a TRRS is to know that the price of the replacement is sensible and contained, in addition to the fact that due to the experience we have with TRS Motorcycles in
Trialworld Store
the service is outstanding. Here you have
prices of accessories and original spare parts for TRRS.

As points for improvement we have the exhaust silencer, whose plastic bowl has nails that break easily and end up detaching. A “homemade” solution is to place an additional reinforcing screw or rivet on top. Other finishes, such as the exhaust plug, or how the tank is presented on the frame at the bottom could be better finished.
In short, a great option, which also presents a very interesting new variant such as the
TRRS X-Track Raga Racing
, a variant of the RR in a “convertible” format from trial-excursion (more autonomy and seat) to a standard RR.
