Toni Bou wins a thrilling Trial World Championship for the seventh time in a row

Bou Win2013Bou has won his seventh consecutive world title at Isola 2000 (France) after winning a thrilling duel with Adam Raga and Albert Cabestany.

In 2013, with the arrival of the new NonStop regulation, the Piera rider has struggled a lot to keep the overwhelming superiority that it had exercised for the last six seasons, to the point that he reached this final test with only 5 points ahead of his main rival, Adam Raga.

Throughout this day of competition we have seen it all. In a The first moment was the British James Dabill who dominated the first step through the zones with a partial of 11 points, while Raga and Fajardo followed with a double Tie at 15 points. Behind Bou and Cabestany with 17 and Fujinami with 18.

This race situation was critical for Toni Bou, who was not interested in being mixed up with so many riders in a points handkerchief, as any mistake could cost him dearly and put the title on a platter for Adam Raga. [LEER MÁS]

In the The second round of the season has changed radically. Bou and Raga have stood out from the rest, signing a partial of only 2 points, to Cabestany’s 6. With this, the two great candidates were still marked by the same distance, but several rivals had been removed from each other in the fight for victory. Now, the race was a three-way race: Raga, Cabestany and Bou.

On the third lap Raga made more mistakes than he could afford to clinch the world title, scoring 11 points and a total of 28, while Bou maintained the tone of the second lap and penalized only 2 points, giving him the Victory and title with a cumulative 22 points.

Albert Cabestany slipped in between the two, in a race from less to more, signing a card of 27 points that leaves him just one point away from the third position in the 2013 world championship, which has gone to Jeroni Fajardo.

In the Junior categorywe have witnessed another exciting duel between the two fittest and most regular riders in the category: Jorge Casales and Pol Tarrés.

Although Tarrés won yesterday, he did not depend on himself to reduce the 12-point lead he held in the championship with Casales. The Galician rider, aware that his goal was the title, drove excellently, giving up the victory to his great rival, but conquering the well-deserved and long-awaited Junior world title. Next year we will see him in the senior category.

Laia Sanz: “I was a bit worried because I didn’t know how I would respond and where I would be compared to the other participants, but in the end everything went much better than I expected. Yesterday I made a few extra points due to the lack of adaptation to the new regulations, but today I had a very good race. I’m very satisfied with the whole weekend and happy to be back racing with my bike. Today we ran in the dry and the terrain became easier, so that every mistake was much more expensive. You had to tread very carefully to win. In addition, I started behind Bristow and all the time I was seeing what he was doing, which added pressure because on the first lap he only made one mistake. Fortunately, I stayed at 0 and in the second round she scored five points, plus another two in the third.”

Toni Bou: “Of all the world titles I’ve won, this has been the one that has cost me the most effort. The new ‘non stop’ regulations forced me to change my riding style and progressively I felt better in the new conditions. Once again, the Montesa Cota 4RT, the team and the work done have been fundamental to conclude this championship in the best way in which we have
We have overcome very hard times. Now, after defending the title, I feel very happy, immensely happy.”

Takahisa Fujinami: “It has been a great weekend for both Toni and the team as they have achieved their goals and in this sense I must feel happy for them. But for me it’s been a disaster. Neither yesterday nor today did things go as I expected and I lost third place in the championship standings . I feel very disappointed.”

Adam Raga: “We don’t have to hurt ourselves because we lost the title, on the contrary, we have to be positive and think about everything we have achieved this season: having a chance of winning the title until the last zone. Before coming to France, everything was very complicated. Yesterday we made a splash and achieved a goal. Today, in the end, it was not to be; I made two mistakes on the last lap by going too fast because we thought we would get caught in the rain. As I said, the best thing about this year is how everything went: I felt very good indoors, almost winning the last race; Physically I was very good and I was able to fight from the first moment. Since 2001 I have been winning races in the World Championship, this means that for more than 10 years I have been at a high level as an athlete: work, fight, team preparation… Sometimes it goes better and sometimes not so much, but to be there with title options until the end is very important. We are very happy and I want to congratulate the whole team for the support they have given me. The Gas Gas team has always given more than 100%, they have been very motivated and with incredible enthusiasm and I can only thank them for that”.

Jorge Casales: “I’m very happy, very happy. Much. This has been my first full World Championship season, going to all the races, and without a doubt that has given me even more experience. For me, getting the title is a dream come true and I want to thank my team, my mechanic, my backpacker, all the people who have supported me this year. It is a joy to achieve a success of this magnitude. When I started the season I started as favourites, but I knew it wouldn’t be easy, because I left Galicia for Catalonia and I didn’t know how it would go. I found a great backpacker, we got off to a good start in Japan and were encouraged. And based on a lot of training and a lot of sacrifice, we have reached the last round with a good advantage to be able to celebrate the title with peace of mind. Thank you all very much.”
