Toni Bou starts the 2019 season by sweeping Italy

Toni Bou has achieved a resounding victory in the Italian Trial Grand Prix, held in Pietramurata. He was accompanied on the podium by Jeroni Fajardo and Adam Raga, who staged a fantastic duel until the final stages of the race.

The Grand Prix began with a chaotic qualifying session, which was once again night. The heavy rain that fell throughout the day and the geology of the terrain, with very little traction in wet conditions, meant that none of the riders in the top category went beyond the area. Therefore, maximum penalty, with some controversy as well, since the drivers were not initially willing to make Q2. In the end, the start was decided based on the draw. Here the biggest beneficiary was Busto, who started in the group behind, while Raga and Fajardo were forced to open the race, although closely followed by Bou.

The general tone was that of a first lap with very high scores, especially in the groups of zones from 4 to 10 and the last of the course. At the end of this first pass through the zones, Bou already accumulated an advantage of 14 points over Jaime Busto, who made his heroic debut with his new

On the second lap, with the terrain much drier and the lines clear, the scores dropped significantly among the favourite riders, highlighting

who scored only 4 points, securing the victory at the start of the championship. Behind, Jeroni Fajardo, also with great progression, managed to regain an advantage over Raga and climb to the second step of the podium.

2019 ITALIAN GP QUOTES

Toni Bou:

“I’m very happy with today’s riding. It’s true that on the first lap I made two serious mistakes by shooting two arrows. In the second I rode very well with only four points in a very complicated race where the terrain slipped a lot. I want to thank the team because we have worked very hard all winter to be able to arrive strong here.”

Jeroni Fajardo:

“I’m very happy to have started the TrialGP World Championship like this. After everything that happened yesterday in qualifying, it was a very difficult day for us. All the riders scored a five and today I had to start in reverse order of the result of yesterday’s draw. It was a very tough trial, under very difficult conditions. It rained a lot last night and opening up areas is always difficult, but we never stopped believing that we could do it. The first half of the season was a bit difficult for us. We were riding well, but the controls and the race itself didn’t let us show how well we were doing. Despite this, we have not given up. We kept pushing and, thanks to that, the second lap went very well for us and we recovered positions to finish second. A hard-fought second place. I want to thank the whole team for the effort they have made to get this podium in Italy.”

Adam Raga:

“I wasn’t very successful in four sections during the first lap, but overall the driving was good, so during the second pass through the sections I knew I could come back, although it would be difficult to fight for the win. We’re in a good moment and confident to have a great season.”
