Toni Bou closes in on the world title after the Portuguese GP

Toni Bou took his sixth consecutive victory of the season at Gouveia, home of the Portuguese Grand Prix. With just two races to go until the end of the season, the rider from Piera will be World Champion if he wins the French GP next weekend.

The second step of the podium went to a brilliant Adam Raga who, despite opening sections with Busto, managed to set a good race pace and complete the two passes through the fifteen sections just 7 points behind the winner.

Jeroni Fajardo was also fantastic, who was also in the fight with Raga and could have taken the victory if he had not made some dispensable mistake. A great merit for Gas Gas to be in Portugal knowing that things in the factory are delicate.

DECLARATIONS

Toni Bou:

“Today was a very tough race. It’s been quite a positive weekend, with a terrain that we like a lot. We have had a very good second lap of the sections, so we leave here with a very good taste in our mouths. We will try to arrive in France more recovered to be able to have a good race. We know that if we win, we will be champions, which is impressive, but the important thing is to have a good race. I’m very happy and I want to thank the whole team, as they have done a great job this week.”

Adam Raga:

“We didn’t have a good qualifying and that conditioned us in the race. It was difficult to understand the criteria of each judge, even in two different steps of the same area, so I added some points that did not touch. In spite of everything, we rode well and fought for the victory until the last sections. We keep working to be higher in the next races.”

Jeroni Fajardo:

“Very happy to be back on the podium. It was a very tight trial in which it was difficult to make a difference. The areas of the first part of the Trial were river areas in which I scored few points, both on the first and second laps. The second part of the course was on drier terrain with big steps. The lack of time made me make a mistake in zone thirteen of the first lap that penalized me for the rest of the race and I finished the trial just a few points behind the second.”

Takahisa Fujinami:

“Today we started very well. Up to zone 13 I was leading, but later on we penalized quite a few points for time. On the second lap of the sections I tried to change the line and the lines. In the end I finished fifth but with a good feeling. We will try to improve on what has failed us today for next week’s race.”
