WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW TRIALGP?

The arrival of a new promoter
The World Championship begins a new era as it enters the hands of a new promoter who organizes and promotes the world’s top event in this sport. Sport7 has introduced several changes to the regulations that, on paper, should bring greater interest and impact to the Trial competition.
New Categories
New classes are established in the World Championship. TrialGP is the highest category, and the riders with the best track record and level take place in it. Trial2, Trial125, TrialGP Women and Trial2 Women are the other classes in the championship.
Ten Scoring Races
The FIM Outdoor Trial World Championship will have eight events, of which six will be held in a single day and the two transoceanic races (Japan and the United States) will have two days of competition that will add up to a total of ten races that count towards the World Championship.
Qualifying practice on the eve of the GP
A qualifier has been determined to determine the starting order for the race day. The driver with the fewest errors in a single zone will have the best starting position. In the event of a tie, the fastest driver will take the best position.
Unified Schedules
On the Friday before the race, at 3:00 p.m., the drivers will be able to inspect the race route. On Saturday, the administrative and technical checks of the maximum category will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. there will be training for the qualifying area. Fans will be able to enjoy a signing session of the drivers at 14:30. The qualifying session will take place on Saturday afternoon, at 15:00. The start of the Main Event will be at 09:00 for each Grand Prix. The podiums of the race will be held at 3:45 p.m.
15 zones 2 laps
Unlike previous seasons, the format of the course changes in the new TrialGP: a single number of zones and laps of the course is established for all races, which are 15 zones and 2 laps, with a maximum time of 5 hours (2 and a half hours for each lap, with a 20-minute break)
Classification by brands
For the first time, it is the trial bike manufacturers participating in the World Championship who choose only a maximum of two riders per brand and category (TrialGP and Trial2) so that the best classified in each class adds points for the final manufacturers’ classification.
PILOT STATEMENTS
Toni Bou:

The TrialGP World Championship starts a little later than usual this year, and thanks to that we have had a little more time to prepare after the end of the X-Trial season. This year will be a very difficult season for everyone, with the changes that the new World Championship promoter has introduced: in addition to qualifying, there will only be one day of competition in the six European races, which means that you will have to be very focused at all times, because any mistake will cost more to recover. This winter the whole team has worked hard to be better, since last year the rivals made the championship very difficult for us. More and better, this is the team’s goal.

Adam Raga:

We have completed a satisfactory X-Trial season, showing a very good level and now we are ready for the outdoor world championship. The goal will be to fight for victory in every race and be consistent. There are new changes in the regulations that will be unknown, but the sporting essence does not change and it will be interesting to see how the season evolves with these novelties.

Takahisa Fujinami:

After finishing third last year, you always think you can improve. For me, the goal is simply that: to improve. I want to feel good in the sections, on the bikes and fight like I’ve always fought. I think I’m at my best, I’ve trained a lot and I’ll come into this first race very motivated. Yes, I’m the oldest rider in the paddock, but for the same reason I’m also the most experienced and that’s always good. I will fight as I did last season to win races and to try to be on the podium as many times as possible.

Jaime Busto:

I’m very confident that this can be a good year for me, having done some good results in the X-Trial races I was invited to. I think I have enough experience to fight in every race to finish on the podium in this new TrialGP World Championship and I’m going to try. Of course, being in the Repsol Honda Team, with Toni and Fuji as teammates, is where I can be best to achieve this goal. We’ve been training a lot in preparation for this season and I think I’m in good shape.

Miquel Gelabert:

It’s a very special year for me, I want to do very well and be regularly at the top. It won’t be easy because the opponents have a high level and any mistake is costly. I also want to understand in competition how they feel about the changes made by the new promoter, Sport 7, with new regulations that can be interesting. At the moment it seems that there may be rain, which would make the race even more selective.

Jordi Tarrés:

We start the World Cup at home, in Camprodon. The motivation and confidence continues to grow, especially after the great performance shown in the X-Trial World Championship. Adam is more adapted to the bike and his good form tells us that it is possible to win races and be ambitious. As a team we are very pleased to have a wide representation in all categories, with options as well as great results

Miquel Cirera:

Ahead of the new season that begins this coming weekend, the Repsol Honda Team is looking forward to the format changes introduced by the new championship promoter. Actually, I don’t think there are any big surprises in the results. The first objective is to defend Toni Bou’s title, for Fujinami to repeat or improve on last year’s great result and for Jaime to also climb positions with good classifications in the race. We’ll see what happens in the end, but the team’s goal is clear: to repeat the individual title and also the constructors’ title. For the latter, it won’t be easy, as the introduction of the new Trial2 category has an important role in the classification of brands. The riders who will represent Montesa and who have the help of the brand are Gabriel Marcelli and Francesc Moret, who thanks to the RFME team, will be in the competition. Marcelli is young and has good potential and Moret has experience and we expect him to give good results.
