Gas Gas TXT PRO 2007 | Photos, Test & Spare Parts

The first thing that catches your eye in the Gas Gas TXT PRO 2007 range is the aesthetics. Gas Gas has also joined the trend promoted by Scorpa and Sherco to paint the frames in matt black, and varying the shade of the cylinder and crankcases for another more in line with the overall image of the whole.

Mechanically we did not find any changes that affect its performance, although work has been done to optimize the operation of other more delicate components, such as the clutch and gearbox. The first thanks to components with less flex, and the second with a deep revision to make the whole thing gain in softness.

In terms of suspension, there are also changes, some of them last-minute, such as the agreement signed between Gas Gas and ZF-Sachs to supply the shock absorbers that will equip the new range. At the front we still find a very light Marzocchi fork with aluminum bars, which now also have a useful air bleed in the top cap.
To conclude, Gas Gas TXT 2007 continues to improve in small details that facilitate its use and maintenance. In this case we find a new axle that simplifies the task of assembling and disassembling the rear wheel, since it is only removed by loosening an Allen bolt that presses the right eccentric.

The footpeg support is also newly designed, and the footpegs are re-anchored with a through-screw to reduce the uncomfortable vibrations caused by the previous system. To top it off, the kickstand has also been replaced, which is now shorter, more practical, and made entirely of aluminium.

In terms of suspension, there are also changes, some of them last-minute, such as the agreement signed between Gas Gas and ZF-Sachs to supply the shock absorbers that will equip the new range. This commitment does not exclude Öhlins, which will also provide its own components, but they will be assembled indistinctly, and according to Gas Gas, it will be the market that decides which will prevail in the future. At the front we still find a very light Marzocchi fork with aluminum bars, which now also have a useful air bleed in the top cap.

Finally, Gas Gas continues to improve in small details that make it easier to use and maintain.
The first thing that catches our attention in the Gas Gas TXT 2007 is its imposing aesthetics, which you may or may not like, but in the monotonous world of trial you always have to reward innovation. Looking at the new chassis we can see that even the smallest detail has been taken care of, and the powder coating used is of high quality, so it will not be as easy to scratch as it may seem at first.
Already on its controls, the driving position is practically identical to its predecessor, although thanks to the relocation of the footpeg support a little more weight is loaded on the rear axle. What does seem different is the position of the starter lever, which is now more protected as it is completely retracted under the manifold, and once unfolded it is at the same height as the previous one. In the cockpit, next to the throttle grip, we still find a switch to select one of the two curves previously programmed in the Kokusan ignition.
In general terms, this “two and a half” mechanics is the most complete of the entire range offered by the Girona brand. Its strength is that it combines almost perfectly two very important terms, such as docility and power. The first stroke of throttle is less aggressive than a 280cc engine, but the performance is very similar in medium and high revs, not in vain the maximum revs at which it is capable of working rises to 10,230 rpm.

As for the variations made on the gearbox, we have not noticed great differences compared to the last edition, only that now the jump between fourth and fifth gear is less abrupt, and in general we do appreciate a greater smoothness. Most likely, the work has focused on improving the reliability of these delicate components, something that we will be able to verify when we continue to accumulate hours of use.

SACHS SHOCK AND MARZOCCHI FORK

Where we do find big changes is in the rear shock. In the first dynamic test mentioned above, organized by Gas Gas, we had the opportunity to get on a Gas Gas with Öhlins shock absorber, and this time our test unit was equipped with the new ZF-Sachs.
Aesthetically it reminds us a lot of the Sachs that the TXT Pro has equipped since its origins – the Öhlins has only been assembled during the 2006 series – although we would not dare to claim that it is the same model. Dynamically its behavior is very good, although it is difficult to match the bar set by the Öhlins, whose absorption capacity when jumping from large slopes is greater. Riding at an amateur level, both offer very similar sensations, marked by a first third of smooth travel, which perfectly adapts the rear end to the irregularities of the terrain, and transfers more than adequate traction.

At the front, the same trend prevails as last year, and that is that the Marzocchi fork with aluminum bars is an example of effectiveness and lightness, so much so that we could be talking about the best fork on the market – with the permission of the Showa that mounts the 4RT.
In short, the 2007 range is the best example of how Gas Gas does not cease to research in order to continue improving its flagship product year after year. It is true that in recent editions the bulk of the technical innovations are mainly aimed at improving the chassis part, while the main objective of the work on its mechanics is to increase reliability. With this we cannot say that the evolution of the 2T has reached its peak, but it does make us intuit that the technicians are more focused on the evolution of the long-awaited valve engine.
At the moment we can only say that the new TXT Pro is a bike full of life, which year after year continues to surprise us with great records. What’s new? 69.2 Kg curb weight.
