Bou wins in Ibiza against a great Fajardo

bou_ibiza-5The second round of the Spanish Trial Championship has been full of emotion in all respects. Bou has achieved his first victory of the year in the open air , making up for the first race, where Raga won, and taking advantage of the fact that a fantastic Fajardo has finished between both riders to take the lead of the championship.

Bou arrived in Ibiza depleted by his fall at the Milan Indoor Trial, where he was proclaimed World Champion, so this week he has not trained and all his efforts were focused on getting ready for the Balearic event. On the other hand, his backpacker and right-hand man, Didac Cercós, is injured , something that has also conditioned the Piera rider, as indicated in his statements.

Bou’s other big obstacle today was a splendid Jeroni Fajado, who was only given a four-minute time penalty to win the race. Without this penalty, both would have been level on points and the Beta rider would have won the tiebreaker thanks to a greater number of zeros to his credit -19 compared to Bou’s 18-.

Both Bou and Fajardo have stood out from their rivals from the first lap. Although in this The first pass through the zones has separated them by only one point -6 and 7 points respectively-, The curious thing is that all the areas where one has penalized, the other has exceeded them “to zero”, and even the only fiasco in the race both have marked in different areas.

Raga and Cabestany completed the first half of the race with identical points -15 points-, something that would also happen in the second pass through the zones -12 points-, leaving the last step of the podium for Raga after the tiebreaker -17 zeros vs 14-.

The excitement was to see how Bou and Fajardo would resolve their differences. Finally, it would be Jeroni who would be in charge of setting the best record of the day with 3 points, followed by Bou with 4 points. This scenario left both drivers in a draw, but the Beta rider had to add an additional 4 time penalty points.

Another nice battle is the one between Moret and Casales, both with 79 points, followed by Borrellas with 91 and Tournour with 93 points.

In TR2 the victory went to Carlos Traviesa, with 18 points, followed by Noguera -25 points and Moral -33 points-.

In Junior, a resounding victory for Jaime Busto , one of the great promises of this sport, with only one point on his card. Behind him, Nacho Fernández from Madrid, with 25 points, and Ignacio Martín with 38 points, signed an excellent second place.

In TR3 , Recio won -24 points-, followed by Horrach -34 points- and López -54 points-.

Finally, in Cadete, with a very tough race, victory for Venanci Vidal -61 points-, followed by Navarro -68 points- and Montalvo -76 points-.

CHRONICLE OF THE IBIZA AND FORMENTERA MOTORCYCLE CLUB

The race began on Friday at 3:00 p.m., when the paddock opened and throughout the afternoon of Saturday the Motorhomes, vans and vehicles of the participants began to arrive, beginning to breathe a “trial” atmosphere in the city of Ibiza.

On Saturday morning (from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) we were able to see these wonderful riders in action and see how they adapted to the terrain they would encounter on Sunday in the competition. Seeing the great level at which they are but we could also see how they had more than one scare due to the little grip of the terrain, since most areas were located on a fairly slippery terrain of dirt, stones and rocks and it was already foreseeable that any carelessness could be expensive. In the practice sessions we could already see a large number of people who were impressed by the mastery and level of the riders and already foresaw the large number of people who would come on Sunday to follow the competition.

raga_nacional_480On the same Saturday, two Trial Show exhibitions were held in the Reina Sofia park in the centre of Ibiza by the spectacular Marcel Justribó and Jordi Pascuet who impressed everyone those who came to contemplate them and with whom the atmosphere was already heating up and preparing for the Sunday that the competition would take place.

On Sunday, the competition took place, starting to give the Departure to the pilots at 9:00 a.m. in a staggered manner by drivers and by categories (as usual this year, the lower categories start first starting with Tr3+35, Tr3, Cadet, Junior and Tr2 and from 12:10 the drivers of the TR1 category left who were the most awaited by the large number of people who have come to contemplate the test). The lower categories had a time of 4:30 hours to complete the two laps of the course and complete the 12 zones in each lap. The Absolute TR1 category had 3 hours but they made a single lap of the route and did each of the zones twice.

The areas were close together to make it easier for the public to follow the test. So we didn’t find zones 1 to 10 on the road to the Canyes quarry, Zone 11 was an indoor log area located in the centre of Ibiza. in the Reina Sofia park and zone 12 was another indoor stone area located in the padock at the Ibiza fairgrounds where the time control was located and they were already finished.

Zones 1 to 10 were in a terrain of rocks, stones and dirt with different types of obstacles, but the truth is that there were some with climbs or steps that a priori seemed insurmountable, although the pilots and in all categories have managed to overcome them in all cases.

The areas have been of a Very technical and demanding level for the riders, so in order not to penalize they had to make a maximum effort and we have been able to see how most of the riders have finished with quite a few points (in all categories) and most of the riders have been penalized with some fiasco (all except for the Junior Jaime Busto who managed to finish the race winning the Junios category with only 1 point penalty).

BY CATEGORIES

In the Absolute TR1 category we have experienced a wonderful duel until the end of the race between the four most outstanding riders (Toni Bou, Jeroni Fajardo, Adam Raga and Albert Cabestany) as they have all committed some fiasco and the classification has not been decided until the end of the race.

Toni Bou started off on the right foot and at the end of the second pass through zone 9 he only had 5 points on his card. He had a good margin of advantage over his opponents, but a mistake in zone 10 caused him to be penalized with a fiasco (he penalized 5 points) and lost this clear advantage.

Behind Jeroni Fajardo, who had an impressive test and he fought “side by side” with Toni Bou for the victory of the race, he had 10 points at the end of zone 6 and managed to finish the 12 zones without penalizing more points, with which he managed to tie with Toni Bou at 10 points, but he has penalized 4 points for time and vehia as The fight for the first place on the podium escaped him, having to content himself with the second place (if he had not been penalized for time he would have won as he had a greater number of zeros). Behind them was a hard fight between Adam Raga and Albert Cabestany, who were vying for third place on the podium, the one that initially seemed that Albert Cabestany was going to win, but in zone 10 Albert made a couple of mistakes and they tied, so Adam Raga won in third position for having the highest number of zeros with 27 points.

Cadet: In this category, the five riders started the first lap very evenly matched and in the second the final classifications were decided, with which Venanci Vidal scored only 21 penalty points and managed to consolidate himself in first place with 61 points, followed by Pau Navarro who had started very well but had to settle for second place  with 68 pts. and behind Julian Montalvo 76pts.Junior: Jaime Busto has given a driving recital to all his rivals making the two passes to the 12 zones penalizing only 1 point in zone 8, which has been impressive! Behind them, Nacho Fernández and Ignacio Martín remained in second and third place respectively throughout the race, finishing with 25 and 38 points.

TR2:  In this category the podium places have been more or less the same since the beginning of the race. Carles Travieses led the race, closely followed by Oriol Noguera but in the second lap Oriol was penalized with several fiascos and lost options to compete for the first place, finishing the race Carlos with 18 points and Oriol with 25 points. Behind them, José Mª Moral and Marcos Méndez had a tough fight for the third place on the podium, but in the second lap Marcos penalized quite a few feet and left him off the podium, thus imposing José Mª Moral in third place with 33 points. Another rider who had podium options was Ivan Peydro, who suffered a rupture when he hit the engine with a rock in zone 5 on the first lap, which has left him out of competition.

Tr3: On the first lap the 3 riders in this category started very evenly and with practically the same points, but on the second lap Recio made an impressive lap and penalized only 4 points, which clearly awarded him the first place with 24 points, followed by Marc Horrach who consolidated in the second with 34 points. and Arnau López, who had a bad second lap and was relegated to third place with 54 points.

Tr3+35: In this category there was only one rider who scored points for the Spanish championship, Josep Borrell, who had to retire, so the Ibizan Antonio Salas (who participated in the race without scoring points in the national) claimed the victory.

Throughout the competition there has been a large influx of people to follow the event, but it was from 12 o’clock, when the riders of the Absolute TR1 category came out when they really The entire track of the race has been filled with followers who have been able to follow all the riders walking from one area to another without missing any of the areas and enjoying this magnificent spectacle that they have given us.

At the end of the test at 3:30 p.m., the trophy ceremony was held, which was attended by the Councilor for Sports Mar Sachez, the councillor of sports of the Consell Insular de Ibiza Rafa Triguero, the councillor for sports of the city council of Santa Eulalia Antonio Marí, the president of the Balearic Motorcycling Federation José Yuste and the president of the Motoclub de Formentera I Eivissa Agustín Ribas and have distributed the trophies to the winners and different gifts given by the Space Ibiza nightclub.

As usual in this event, the trophies are made by the ceramist “Adrian de Sa Taulera” elaborating for each edition some detail of ceramic typical of our islands.

FINAL ASSESSMENT

At the end of the race we exchanged opinions with most of the riders (from all categories), managers of the different teams, heads of the national federation and the Balearic Islands…  And although they have commented that the areas were very demanding and strong, they have been very satisfied with the level of the areas and they have liked the layout of them. On an organizational level, thanks to the experience of these 4 years, everyone has told us the high level at which the Ibizan race is, which means that we can continue to opt to carry it out in future editions.

After all the work of these weeks, this is the only reward we have, that everything has gone well and all the riders have enjoyed a good trial, which really compensates, gratifies and encourages us to continue working for this sport that we like so much!

From the Motoclub de Formentera I Eivissa would like to thank all the collaborators of the Motoclub the great effort they have made to be able to carry out the test and that everything went perfectly, since for the event we have been working for several weeks to be able to have everything prepared and We have mobilized more than 40 people who have collaborated selflessly with the event and without which it would be impossible to face the realization of tests of this magnitude.

We would also like to thank all the institutions and companies that have collaborated so that one more year we could face the realization of the test, since as we all know we are in a difficult time economically and a lot of aid is needed to be able to carry it out.
