Tutorial | 20 Key Points to Grease Your Trial Bike

Proper maintenance is based on knowing which points we must keep greased and lubricated, so that we ensure their correct functioning and durability. In the long run, the overall performance of the bike is the sum of a multitude of elements working in harmony and efficiency, especially with the sporty and demanding use that a trial bike receives.

On off-road bikes, many of the components are designed to make a movement that allows the correct functioning of each of the parts on the
trial bike
. These components live in an environment surrounded by dust, mud and water, so proper greasing will be decisive in the behavior and durability of each of them.

We recommend carrying out the
mechanical work on the trial
bike and greasing the bike after each wash, when the part is clean and perfectly dry. If, on the other hand, we grease the motorcycle with a dirty or wet one, the pressure of the spray can drag dust and water particles to the joint, causing it to malfunction.
Below, we detail the 20 points that can be greased. Completing each of them won’t take you more than two minutes.
In order not to forget any point, it is advisable to start on one of the sides and from the back to the front or vice versa. Once completed, repeat the same operation with the other side.

TWO TYPES OF GREASE TO LUBRICATE THE TRIAL BIKE

Repsol Grease Spray: highly adhesive lubricating spray grease, suitable for lubricating cables, chains and guides. Withstands high
working temperatures.
– Repsol Multipurpose: loosens and releases metal parts blocked by rust and corrosion. Protects electrical and electronic components.
Repsol Chain (chains): Lubricating oil spray to keep chains and secondary drivetrains in perfect condition. It applies easily and adheres perfectly to the chain, minimizing losses and keeping the tire and rear rim clean. It is waterproof and capable of working at high temperatures and in all types of environments.

GREASE POINTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRIAL BIKE

– Greasing the front wheel axle bearing (Repsol Grease Spray): We will only lubricate the bearing on the right side. On the left side, we advise not to lubricate because with the movement grease could jump into the brake disc.

– Grease the front brake lever (Repsol Grease Spray): Grease the lever pusher and the lever joint with the screw.

– Gas grip greasing (Repsol Multipurpose): We will remove the access cover and lubricate the inside of the gas grip and the wheel that guides the cable.
– Grease throttle cable (Repsol Multiusos): We take the throttle cable out of the throttle grip and put it vertically, grease it so that the lubricant enters inside the cable sheath.

– Grease steering bearings (Repsol Multipurpose): It has two bearings, one in each seatpost.

– Grease the starter lever and seal (Repsol Grease Spray): We will lubricate the outer face, the inner face and the shaft seal.

– Fan shaft greasing (Repsol Multipurpose): We will grease the fan shaft by placing the motorcycle vertically to ensure that the grease penetrates the shaft.

– Brake lever greasing (Repsol Grease Spray): We will lubricate three parts. The anchoring of the lever to the chassis, the axle joint that actuates the master cylinder and the foot support area that automatically retracts in the event of a blow.

– Right footpeg greasing (Repsol Grease Spray): We lubricate the contact areas of the footpeg with the chassis and make sure that it returns to its position automatically in the event of a blow.

– Kickstand greasing (Repsol Fat Spray): On the joint, where the leg is fixed with the swingarm.
– Greasing the shock linkages: With the grease you see in the photo: We will lubricate the rotation and anchoring points of the linkages both to the chassis and the swingarm, We will also lubricate the shock bushings both at the bottom and at the top.

LUBRICATION POINTS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TRIAL BIKE

– Chain greasing (Repsol Chain): Place the motorcycle on a stand that allows the rear wheel to rotate freely. Grease the chain at the bottom in the area between the wheel and the crankcase plate. We recommend using the link link of the chain as a grease reference.

– Chain tensioner greasing (Repsol Grease Spray): To ensure proper operation, we will grease the tensioner support over the swingarm. We will check its correct operation by pulling the tensioner downwards. If you return and tighten the chain, you are acting correctly.
– Rear wheel bearing greasing (Repsol Grease Spray): We will only lubricate the bearing on the right side. On the left side, we advise not to lubricate because with the movement grease could jump into the brake disc.

– Left footpeg greasing (Repsol Grease Spray): We lubricate the contact areas of the footpeg with the chassis and make sure that it returns to its position automatically in the event of an impact.
Secondary shaft bearing greasing (Repsol Grease Spray): We will lubricate the shaft that is located between the attack pinion and the engine block.

– Carburetor starter greasing (Repsol Multiusos): We will operate the carburetor starter so that the carburetor shaft is located at its highest part. At this point we will lubricate the shaft.
