Trial Promises. Arnau Farre.

promesas_trial_arnau_farreWe are a family from Vilanova de Segrià, Lleida. When Arnau turned 6 years old, in 2004, his parents gave him a Beta 50cc, a second-hand motorcycle with which he began to take his first steps on a motorcycle. As we have not had a biker tradition, so that Arnau could learn to ride a motorcycle and not get bored of it, we got in touch through the Internet with Ciriac Grados, who was then teaching trial classes in Santa María de Montbui, Barcelona.

It was then that Ciriac proposed that we make Arnau compete because he pointed out ways and we listened to him. That’s where it all started and what started as entertainment for us has become a great hobby that is now shared by the whole family. It should be noted that we hardly knew what trial was until Arnau started practicing it.

After two years with Ciriac we had the opportunity to contact Marcel Justribó, also from Lleida, which made it much easier for us to train close to home. It is now Marcel who is in charge of Arnau’s training. Thanks to this experience that we are sharing with Arnau, it has allowed us to meet many people, many places and most importantly to share with our family some very important years for us and our son.

INTERVIEW

TRIALWORLD: Tell us about your plans for the 2011 season.

ARNAU FARRÉ: This season we change to the CADET category, we have done so far the Catalan Championship and also the Spanish Championship, and in this 2011 season we want to do these two championships again, we also like to participate in the races that we can of the Aragonese Championship, which is quite close to home, and of course we do all the races we can of the Provincial of Lleida.

TW: How do you organize yourself to reconcile training and studies?

AF: This year I have started the Institute, I am in 1st year of ESO, and it is difficult for me to train during the week, as we have the Wednesday afternoons and Friday holidays at the Institute, we combine it with Marcel to be able to train.

TW: Tell us what your training is like during a normal week of class and what it’s like in another week when there’s a race on the weekend?

AF: If we have a race that weekend the day before the race we don’t train, but if there is no race we do train on Saturday.

TW: Is it necessary to complement motorcycle training with physical preparation or is it not so important at your age?

AF: At the moment at our age it is not advisable to go to the gym, and high school sports, cycling and football with friends are enough.

TW: Where do you think is the key and the difference between a young guy who starts doing trials to have fun and another who wants to be a professional?

AF: Everyone who starts does it first because they like it and they have fun, it is then when you decide if you want to continue having fun or you want to compete, then the fun is in the background.

TW: What do you like most about racing?

AF: Enter and win.

TW: Anything that doesn’t convince you?

AF: The current Open Free rules.

TW: Would you like to dedicate yourself professionally to trial or do you think it is a good springboard to do other off-road specialties? See Mario Román.

AF: Of course, and if in trial it’s not possible in some other specialty.

TW: What do you think of the regulation? Do you think it favors the arrival of young promises?

AF: The rules before the Open Free were simpler because each category had its marked route and only the number of feet and fiascos counted, the Open Free has changed its mentality, all participants can choose their own route, but due to the bonus that was granted there was speculation to get a better result, And I don’t think that helps more people get started in trial.

TW: Does the media do a lot to stand out in trials or does the skill of the rider and his perseverance in training count more?

AF: I think the rider’s skill and consistency in training, everything helps.

TW: Where would you like to go in the world of trials and in what timeframe would you like to achieve it?

AF: To participate in an Absolute Indoor and Outdoor World Championship within 10 years.
