Spain’s double in the Trial Nations

tdn_480As expected, Spain has added its eighth consecutive title in the Team Trial World Championship, which as usual is disputed in a single round shortly after the end of the Outdoor World Championship. The weekend has been as complete as the previous one, as our women also achieved the absolute victory in this same contest.

For the sixth edition, this race was held in transalpine lands, in a context of intermittent rain that made the areas proposed by the Moto Club Carnico more difficult. Early in the morning there was a good downpour, which came back again at the end of the day and complicated things for the riders who were closing the Trial. For the Spanish riders, the presence of rain was a plus point, as they could still make more of a difference to their rivals and make up ground in case they made a mistake.

At the end of the first round , Spain accumulated 10 points on their scorecards, compared to 45 for their closest pursuers, the British team. Italy, a little further behind, consolidated in third provisional position with 68 penalties to its credit. France, who seemed to be able to put the local drivers in trouble, sank in the standings and scored almost double points, 123 to be precise.

In the second lap the national squad managed to increase its lead even more, closing its performance with a brilliant record of 28 points, which represented a crushing victory over Great Britain, which in this lap increased its partial and finished with a total of 117 points. The Italians followed the same trend as the British, but thanks to the good advantage achieved during the first pass through the zones, they achieved a brilliant third position.

Those who did not show the competitiveness that was expected were the Japanese team, which after the brilliant performance of its members in the Motegi GP seemed that they could put the rest of the teams in trouble and fight for the places of honor.  However the loss of their main standard-bearer, Takahisa Fujinami, left the team with no room for reaction (only the three best times in each zone score and there were only three riders, compared to four for the rest of the teams) and they sank in the standings, finishing in sixth and last place, behind the Norwegians.

Women’s TDN

Despite the good record of our women, the differences with the rival teams are not as wide as those of the men’s team, so Sandra, Mireia and Laia went out to give it their all to try to add their second consecutive victory in this competition.

tdn_feminas_400The British did not make things easy for the national squad, especially because they had to accept an extra penalty of five points, imposed on Laia Sanz after her backpacker passed into the area without the permission of the judges. Despite this, the national team managed to overcome a two-point gap that the British obtained at the end of the first lap, as the second lap of our riders was truly impressive, with only 5 points, to 12 for the British.

In the overall calculation, it meant that Spain won by a narrow margin of five points, which would have been ten without a penalty that fortunately remained a mere anecdote, since it did not reduce the overall result. After the British, the German squad managed to win the battle against the French team, taking a hard-fought third step of the podium.

Inter Trophy Category

The Inter Trophy, where the rest of the teams participate in less difficult areas, had the German team as the protagonist after a nice fight with the Swedes, who were leaders in the early stages of the race. Germany, who have already won this trophy five times , managed to turn the result around after a brilliant second half of the season with 63 points, to Sweden’s 82.

The third step of the podium went to the Czech Republic team, who went from less to more and were only six points away from being able to match the total score of the Swedish team.

Therefore, maximum equality and excitement in the Inter category, where there were a total of 16 teams, which added to the 6 in the absolute category, gave a total of almost 90 drivers in the race. Undoubtedly, a very emotional and fun event that definitively closes the Outdoor World Championships.
