Montesa starts production of the Cota 2022 range

Montesa has started the manufacture of its new 2022 trial range. A few days ago, the brand announced significant changes in the configuration of its trial catalog.

On the one hand, the Cota 4RT range is left with a single model, with Showa forks and the novelty of the exhaust system inherited from the Cota 301RR.

As for the Cota 301RR, it is now also equipped with Showa and is also offered in Race Replica (Repsol) livery.

2022 Cota Range Update

From its most Racing-oriented model, the Cota 301RR, to the Cota 4RT260R, exclusivity is its common characteristic. The brand’s most traditional range has taken a step further in terms of quality, now offering a more premium product.

The Cota 301RR remains Montesa’s flagship. In addition to its high-quality components, it is now necessary to add the incorporation of a Showa fork, which undoubtedly gives it an image even closer to its siblings in the TrialGP World Championship. Showa thus completes the suspension team of the Cota 301RR, taking an important leap in terms of exclusivity and quality.

Another important new feature is the addition of a new color option. This is the Race Replica, a model that features a design and graphics inherited from Toni Bou’s machine from this season, with which the rider from Piera has already accumulated 28 world titles. Undoubtedly, this new livery highlights even more the Racing character of the Cota 301RR.

In addition, this model will also be available in an elegant grey colour (Anchor Gray Metallic) combined with the traditional Montesa red.

The 301RR is the most powerful Cota ever produced. It is a motorcycle designed for racing, hence its surname RR (Race Ready). The model has the proven experience inherited from the competition machines used by the Montesa riders in the Trial World Championship, from which it adopts most of its components and technical solutions

As it could not be otherwise, the new Cota 301RR inherits the engine of the bike that participates in the Trial2 World Championship. The engine remains unchanged from its predecessor, which has already increased its displacement from 288cc to 298cc (maximum displacement allowed in the Trial2 World Championship).

In addition to this increase in displacement, the Cota 301RR benefited from a number of major changes to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) along with a redesign of the gas decompression system, increasing the diameter of the crankcase breather from 1.9mm to 2.25mm, identical to the TrialGP world champion bike of Toni Bou and Fujinami.

These modifications achieve a clear reduction in engine braking, which results in greater control and lightness of the assembly.

On the other hand, greater inertia was achieved in the crankshaft to achieve greater progressivity. In this way, a notable improvement in the response in low and mid levels is achieved and a behavior more similar to the motorcycles competing in the World Championship. In this sense, it is worth highlighting the perfect connection between the throttle control and the final transmission, a key aspect in the top-level trial and in which the exquisiteness of the PGM-FI electronic fuel injection system is of vital importance.

The Cota 301RR continues to rely on a lightweight aluminium frame and swingarm with proven reliability and performance. It is equipped with the lobed brake discs that are fitted to the racing team’s machines on both trains, using the FIM-approved rear disc. In this way, it achieves more bite and more stopping power in both trains. In addition, it has lightweight wheel hubs machined in aluminium, a solution that represents significant weight savings. Continuing with the similarities with the Montesa of the Trial World Championship, it is equipped with the aluminum silencer, which increases resistance and increases performance.

As far as the Cota 4RT260R is concerned, Montesa has decided to concentrate its efforts on a single model, equipped with the most premium components, in the image and likeness of its big brother, the Cota 301RR.

In this way, the new Cota 4RT260R is also equipped with a complete set of high-quality Showa suspensions, both at the front and rear. On the other hand, it has a fuller power curve throughout its travel, benefiting from a significant increase of 5% in torque and power delivery at low and medium revs, among others, thanks to the aluminum silencer adopted from the 301RR and the different improvements applied to its thermodynamic group.

For all these reasons, the model adds the ‘R’ designation to its name (Cota 4RT260R), now having an orientation and image even more inspired by competition.

As far as its aesthetics are concerned, the Cota 4RT260R is presented with a totally radical change, combining an elegant and sporty black color with Montesa red and some white details.

Apart from its more trial-oriented models, Montesa has also announced for the 2022 season its popular 4Ride, a model aimed at excursion trials suitably adapted to comply with Euro5 regulations.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the entire Montesa range is manufactured exclusively and for everyone in the modern facilities of Montesa Honda, in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, Barcelona. All production processes are carried out in the factory, including: engine assembly, plastic injection, manufacture of the aluminum frame, fuel tank and swingarm, processes that guarantee the high levels of quality of the brand.
