Montesa Cota 4RT Repsol 2009 Test

Montesa Cota 4RT Repsol cota4rtrepsol_09 As usual, the thermodynamic assembly and the chassis part are identical to the standard Cota 4RT.

The main difference lies in the use of multiple special components made of carbon fiber: fork bridge, clutch cover guard and fork bars, headlight holder, as well as manifold and exhaust silencer protectors.

In previous editions -2005 and 2006- a programmable ECU with double mapping was included – it is now available as an accessoryand until the current version the Renthal Fat-Bar handlebar – it no longer includes a black machined aluminum upper post – was exclusive to the “Repsol” variant.

The last big difference also gives to the aesthetics; now the graphics are adjusted to the new guidelines of the official team and for the first time in these five years the wheels have been painted – without anodizing – orange.

ELECTRONIC INJECTION

Unfortunately, in order to adapt the 250 4T engine of this model to the requirements of the Euro3 regulations , it has been necessary to modify the exhaust system that significantly reduces the performance of the set. However, Montesa announces that the user can purchase these same parts without limitation at any official dealership.

COTA4RT09The performance of this mechanism has always been very particular, basically because it is the only one in the sector to have injection power. This system is responsible for balancing the performance of the entire set. It’s the nerve center. Thanks to its multiple sensors, it is able to automatically adjust to weather conditions for maximum performance and stop after a few seconds in the event of a fall.

It is a mechanic with excellent torque, good performance in the mid-rev range and great over-rev capacity. The key to efficient driving is to get the most out of the low and medium revs, without making the mistake of constantly working in the high rev range. The reason is that despite its ability to stretch bravely above 11,000 rpm, the useful power begins to decay shortly before 7,000 rpm.

A good tip to effectively pilot this 4T is to make the most of the inertia of the set; In this way, we will also achieve a more intuitive piloting and its marked overweight -77.6 kilos-, will go more unnoticed.

Like its predecessor, the Cota 315R, It has the most brilliant suspension equipment at the moment. AndAs a result, the Cota 4RT owes much of its great trial skills to this section; without them, the mechanics themselves would be more limited and the overall set would be less effective. It combines comfort, effectiveness and forcefulness, even in extreme situations. In addition, the homogeneity between the two trains is perfect and makes it possible to conceal a distribution of masses that is quite unfavourable to the rear axle.

In short, the Montesa 4RT is a motorcycle designed mainly for the average user , who will be able to enjoy a very versatile, reliable and exclusive set. The “Repsol” version is only an aesthetic variant, as all its components – most of them protective – can be found in the auxiliary industry for the standard model.
