Montesa Cota 314R

The Montesa Cota 314R is a model that played a very important role in the evolution of the Cota saga, serving as a transition between the revolutionary Montesa Cota 311 and the prototype that would lay the foundations of the fruitful Montesa Cota 315R saga.

The Cota 314R is the evolution of the
Montesa Cota 311
, a motorcycle that already incorporated a double beam aluminum chassis and innovative technical solutions such as liquid cooling. Historically, the Cota 314R symbolizes the first engine designed by HRC in Japan in collaboration with Montesa’s technical team, a highly successful partnership that continues to this day.
It was a long-stroke engine that incorporated for the first time in a trial bike an electronic ignition (CDI) with a technology developed in the legendary Honda NR-750. The possibility of incorporating two maps allowed a great ability to adapt the response of the engine to the demands of the pilot and the terrain.
Another great novelty was the clutch, with a larger diameter, although still operated by cable, and the exhaust assembly, completely redesigned and made of aluminium. The engine was 261.3cc, had a 6-speed gearbox and a power of 14hp at 4,400rpm.

As for the chassis, we still find an inverted front fork, but in this case adjustable Paioli instead of the previous Marzocchi of the Cota 311. The chassis, which was still made of double aluminium beams manufactured by Verlicchi in Italy, underwent certain evolutions compared to the previous model.
In the rear shock absorber we find a central “Pro Link” system adjustable in extension and spring preload.
The Montesa Cota 314R weighed 84 kilos when empty and was manufactured between 1994 and 1996, selling a total of 2,518 units (plus 429 for Japan) in two versions easily recognizable by their aesthetics.
From the Montesa Cota 314R would be born the prototype of the
Montesa Cota 315R
with which Marc Colomer would be proclaimed Trial World Champion in 1995.
