Miquel Gelabert, fourth in the World Championship: “I feel very confident and my goal is to get on the podium”

When in the middle of July Miquel Gelabert, which like Aniol, agreed to dissolve its contract with Vertigo to explore new challenges, he probably didn’t think that all the effort and sacrifice that would come later would allow him to pass the halfway point of the 2020 TrialGP World Championship in fourth position.

NEW STAGE WITH GASGAS

It’s been an atypical season. We all know that. And in part, it’s also a season of opportunity. Miquel Gelabert ended up reaching an agreement to drive a

, but not within the factory structure. In fact, he started with the support of shops and private sponsors, but little by little he is earning a place in the factory team, where Jorge Casales (TrialGP) and Albert Cabestany (TrialE) currently play.

Miquel started the season in France with a seventh and eighth position. Looking ahead to the Spanish GP, held in Pobladura de las Regueras, Miquel arrived with great expectations: “I feel very confident with the bike and with my riding, I know that I can be up there in every race.”

REGULARITY AND GOOD SENSATIONS IN POBLADURA DE LAS REGUERAS

The assessment
of the 2020 Spanish Trial GP
is very positive for him and the whole team, as the two fifth positions propel him to the fourth provisional position in the championship: “It’s been a very positive weekend for us. Despite some mistakes, I saw that I could be at the front and I withstood the pressure of the race well, knowing how to overcome without losing concentration. On Saturday I felt very good, although with some very strict fiasco, such as the one in the first section, where you could hardly change from behind. Even so, I was able to finish the lap just one point behind third place and fourth overall.”

ON SUNDAY, CLOSER TO THE PODIUM

As for Sunday’s race “I looked very strong after Saturday and I was thinking about the podium. I started again with problems in the first section because of the strict application of the regulations and the concept of the stop. In the third section, where most of the riders had problems, I managed to climb, but I failed on the descent and had a heavy crash. From the sixth section onwards I picked up the pace again, setting all zeros, so I faced the last lap with a lot of motivation. It’s a pity that I had some problems with the fan in the fourth zone and also in the eighth, where I was penalized for technical complications in a section that had previously gone well, losing the options of being higher up.”

Now it’s time to prepare for the imminent Andorran GP: “we’re here with a lot of enthusiasm and thinking about the podium”. This GP will be held, like the previous ones, as a double scoring race.
