Interview with Marc Colomer: “I’m optimistic for this season”

A satisfied Marc Colomer makes a positive assessment of his team’s role in the opening round of the
World Championship in Camprodón
, in which Jaime Busto and Jeroni Fajardo proved to be perfectly adapted to their
GasGas TXT GP
by finishing in second and third position, respectively. In Trial2, Loris Gubian also completed a great performance by finishing third. Magnificent results to which GasGas can add the TrialE title that it already won last year and that this season will consist of two scoring events.

Jaime Busto and Jeroni Fajardo took second and third place, respectively, in the first round of TrialGP.

Podium TrialGP Camprodon 2018

How do you assess this result in the opening round?
“The truth is that the result we achieved in Camprodón is a great start to the championship. Our main goal this season is to have both drivers on the podium in every race, so we are very satisfied with this first step we have taken.”

How did you see each rider during the first weekend of TrialGP? What would you highlight about each one?
“The two demonstrated a high capacity for concentration and definition during this test. Jaime Busto started very strong from the start, finishing first in Saturday’s qualifying, and stood out among the best. Jeroni Fajardo, on the other hand, had a very good reaction at the end of the race that allowed him to be third.”

What evolution have you seen in Jaime and Jeroni’s adaptation to the GasGas TXT after a month of training, once the X-Trial World Championship is over?
“Both riders have passed the adaptation phase to the bike and, from here, we can focus on the sport. We must add improvements between now and the end of the season to continue achieving good results and be able to fight for everything.”

After this result, what are your feelings for the rest of the season?
“I’m optimistic and I think we’ll enjoy it a lot this year and get good results. As a former rider, I think we have a very competitive bike and that’s going to allow both Jaime and Jeroni to really enjoy riding.”

Jaime is perfectly adapted to the bike. Do you think he can surpass the third place he achieved in X-Trial?
“Finishing a Trial World Championship in third place is always difficult. And improving that position is even more so. But I think the most important thing is to keep evolving day by day to be progressively more competitive.”

“The goal in the TrialE World Championship is to defend the title we won last year in Lourdes with the GasGas TXE”

Jeroni had a great opening test in Camprodón and is second in the Spanish Championship. How do you see your season?
“Jeroni has made a very important qualitative leap with our bike. He’s very motivated and convinced that he can have a great year with that improvement.”

Loris Gubian was third in his debut with GasGas in Trial2 and will also participate in the two TrialE rounds. What can we expect from him?
“Loris will combine the Trial2 and TrialE championships, although his main objective will be the TrialE World Championship. He is very motivated with our GasGas TXE, he is already training with it and we are convinced that he will achieve great results.”

Is the goal in the TrialE World Championship to defend last year’s title?
“Without a doubt, the goal is to defend the TrialE title that we won last year in Lourdes with the TXE. This season the World Championship is a two-race race and I’m sure it will be very competitive, so we will have to work hard to achieve it.”

How has the development of the GasGas TXE progressed? Where have you improved the most?
“The TXE is a bike that is constantly evolving. In these months we have improved the power delivery, but also the safety of all the parts of the bike. Now they are in production and that is always the ultimate guarantee of reliability.”

The TrialGP World Championship travels to Japan for the second race of the World Championship, how do you think the Motegi event will be?
“The event in Japan will be a two-day event in a terrain that is always complicated. The areas are usually wet and that will make them slippery, which will add a high level of difficulty to the test. However, this first result, also on a wet surface, makes us optimistic.”
