Why We Can’t Watch the Trial on TV

Would you have liked to see a video here? There was, but the FIM has asked us to remove it. It seems important that the material is jealously guarded so that it can be sold without hindrance to international production companies, which fans like you or me do not know when they will broadcast, and of course will not be available to watch online. Or yes, but for a fee.
This problem is really serious. A minority discipline such as trial, which must coexist with such media obstacles, justifies the poor value chain we have today and can be summarized as follows:
If there is no broadcasting or access to content, the sport is less popular, so brands sell less, they can hire fewer drivers, their sponsors will not be interested in investing in them and the sector will evolve more slowly.
Of course, the riders will have the consolation that with the
technique acquired in trial
they will be able to make the leap to the SuperEnduro World Championship, which is streamed at no cost through Youtube. And therefore, there are sponsors there and the riders’ fees are higher.
We travelled to the
40th anniversary of the Barcelona Indoor Trial
, with the costs that it entails, we took photos and made some live videos through Facebook so that everyone could enjoy it, even knowing the limitations of quality and production that it entails. But you know how to value it. Then we did a short 10-minute summary that the FIM has forced us to remove so that it does not pose a problem for your business. It is true that on this occasion, as it was a race in Barcelona, TV3 broadcast the event, but there are many more along the way and there will be no broadcasting.
What is very clear is that if the race were broadcast online, there would be no need to make videos from the grandstand or the perimeter to enjoy the trial. In addition, the brands, the drivers, the fans and the market would win. It’s business as usual, that the vision is short-term and purely economic.
And taking advantage of the post, I would like to tell you that the FIM has taken care of eliminating all the videos with the summary of the indoor and outdoor trial races of previous years. A lousy detail.
