TRS One 250 & 300 2017 Test

It was only a matter of time. When
TRS Motorcycles
was established in 2013, its partners were very clear about what type of models they wanted to put into production, fully focusing on the needs of today’s fans under the guidelines and baton of a benchmark in trials such as
Jordi Tarrés
.
His particular way of understanding this discipline, where he has been linked for more than 30 years, together with his growing involvement in production models and design, allowed the first TRS Motorcycles model to be publicly presented in 2015: the TRS One.

THE CHANGES OF TRS ONE 2017

Today we are at the controls of the second generation: the TRS One 2017. This edition does not mark a change in trend with respect to the brand’s first model, whose marketing began in 2016, but must be understood within a context of small updates that have gradually been introduced into the production chain.
This is the explanation for the apparent few changes that the 2017 TRS One presents. Aesthetically we can distinguish it by the new graphics that its frame receives, nothing more. The rest of the updates concentrate on its mechanics, where the bulk of the work has been taken by the clutch in search of greater smoothness, speed and durability.

As a result, it receives a new piston, discs and modifications to the clutch cover. The gearbox has also been revised with the aim of gaining a few grams at the selector level and modifying the gear lever itself
Work has also been done on the driving position, slightly further back in search of more traction. Finally, small tweaks to your exhaust guard and starter system.

CONSOLIDATION OF THE ONE RANGE WITH NEW MODELS

The 2017 TRS One range also involves the consolidation of all its engines: 250, 280 and 300cc, which will be joined by another 125cc with an exhaust valve in the middle of next year.
It is interesting to note that the
TRS One Raga Racing
has recently been presented, a model that is the maximum exponent of the brand and basically differentiates the One range in terms of components and finishes.

The launch of TRS Motorcycles temporarily coincided with the toughest stage experienced in competition by
Adam Raga
, where he ended the 2015 season with a meritorious runner-up in the world championship without the support of a factory team, since at that time Gas Gas was in the middle of bankruptcy.

SUCCESS IN THE FIRST YEAR OF COMPETITION WITH ADAM RAGA

It didn’t take long for TRS to pitch a collaboration proposal to Adam Raga, which was a real challenge for both of them. The TRS One had to be ready to challenge for the world title and Adam Raga needed to maintain his level of competitiveness at the controls of a new bike.
In the end, the tandem has been a success, as the first year of coexistence has resulted in two world runner-up finishes and two world championship victories in both competitions (Indoor and Outdoor).

Adam Raga’s work has been instrumental in the evolution of the TRS One, but given the small changes he has received, he indicates that the bike Raga came across did respond quickly to his needs and was able to be competitive from day one.

WHAT DOES TRS ONE BRING TO THE MARKET?

If we have to assess the presence of TRS in the market compared to other recently launched brands, such as Vertigo (a brand that is committed to feeding via electronic injection), we would say that it is a conservative project.
In general, the TRS One does not provide a breakthrough technology, nor does it provide abundant titanium, nor repositioning of elements. This is not a point against, but an initial positioning of the brand in favor of the existing technical solutions on the market, which, by the way, have more than proven their effectiveness.

So, where are the differential values of the TRS One?
The concerns and demands of today’s fans, at least in general terms, could be contextualized in the search for greater engine performance, more dosable power, more lightness, more stability, more agility and suspensions that allow more concessions to riding. Or at least it would be a good wish list.
The TRS receives a double-cradle chassis made of aluminum with an imposing presence, with high quality welds, well finished and accurate geometries. A splendid detail is that it is lightly wedged in its central part and prevents wear and tear on the frame itself due to rubbing of the boots. The reinforcement of the steering tube is striking, a place that successfully solves the wiring guidance of the controls.
The front suspension is entrusted to Tech, something that is not new compared to the competition and is almost mandatory to offer the highest quality. Behind us we find an Ollé R16V that works on a system of very well protected linkages to prevent them from being impacted. The brakes are Braktec with monoblock calipers.

The mechanics of the TRS One are two-stroke cycle powered by a caburador, in this case the classic Dell ́Orto 26mm. The electronics are Hydria and its CDI is programmed to be able to select between two power curves.
So far there is no great news about what we already know. We are surprised (and very surprised) by the small dimensions of its mechanics, which fit perfectly under the line of the frame and its components are perfectly harmonized. Maybe there’s some of the wiring that could be more protected, but it’s something that doesn’t influence in terms of performance.
Before moving on to the analysis of its dynamic behaviour, we would like to highlight the good technical solutions used and its great mechanical accessibility. The eccentrics of the rear axle or being able to carry out maintenance work on the air filter without the use of tools are a good example.

AT THE CONTROLS OF TRS ONE 2017

The Trialworld team has been able to count on two versions of the TRS One 2017 thanks to the collaboration of Difrenos, one with a 250cc engine and the other with a 300cc engine.
This point opens up a new debate. Which displacement is optimal for each rider? Although it deserves a separate chapter, it is clear that the undisputed queens of the market are the 300cc, although not necessarily the most efficient, especially in inexperienced hands.
TRS One 300 2017
The TRS One weighs just 65 kilograms. A superb figure, but always conditional on the sensations on its controls transmitting that lightness in a homogeneous way. Aesthetically, it offers a very successful balance between “Racing” and “elegance”, even erring on the side of a bit sober in its first model with a bare chassis. The new model at this point is prettier.
Once again, the small dimensions of its frame and the general harmony of the bike should be highlighted. Well finished and with very careful details, such as the stamping of the brand’s logo on most of the components.
The start-up is correct. The central opening of the frame makes it easy to remove the carburetor choke. The controls are correct and the clutch is particularly smooth, while the driving position is a very remarkable point. In addition to being comfortable, we are very struck by the poise it transmits from the first moment, seeming easier than usual to stay stuck in balance. A real joy.
TRS One 300 2017
Dynamically, those static sensations continue to be zoned.
What stands out the most about the TRS One is the aforementioned poise and the great feeling of lightness that the front end provides. All this translates into agility and efficiency of piloting.
We perceive it as a tremendously noble and grateful bike that makes things easy for the rider, especially in stationary movements and low-speed maneuvers. Its aplomb and the success of the distribution of masses between the two trains give a homogeneity to the whole that the driver greatly appreciates in terms of driving efficiency.
The clutch takes a while to adapt, but in just a few minutes you understand where its degree of sensitivity is and things start to come out. At first, the great power in the bass of its 300cc engine is combined with the speed of its clutch.
It is important, therefore, to have patience in understanding how to manage so much power; An aspect where the 250cc is also completely opposite, as it is sweet and accessible, but well seasoned by the aforementioned nature of its clutch.
After a few hours, the sensations at the controls of the TRS One are of full complicity with the pilot: there is engine, lightness, poise and efficiency. The mechanics stretch a lot and without the need to incorporate even a Keihin carburetor satisfies the most demanding rider.
TRS One 300 2017
Our fears were to know if the agility and lightness in combination of such a powerful engine could translate into greater inaccuracies, but quite the opposite. It is an easy bike to ride and manage in mechanical terms.
Finally, of the four Trialworld testers who were there in the two days of testing, two agreed that we liked the 250cc better, which basically differs in a smoother low revs, and the other two testers for the 300cc. A decision that caters more to riding styles and levels than to behavior.
In short, this is a highly recommended bike and probably one of the most effective that have passed through our hands in recent months. Double merit if we take into account the short life of TRS as a brand.
The price of the TRS One 2017 is €6,700
