I started trial in 2004, when I was eight years old. In my case, quite influenced by my father, who is a lifelong biker and who has a motorcycle workshop, so all my life I have lived them up close. In his youth he practiced trials with a Montesa Cota 123. My uncle Tomás and my cousin, who were already practicing trials, also had a lot to do with it. My uncle was the president of the Club Grup Trial Pollença. I started in the Escoleta with a bike, then when he saw that I really liked it and that my progress was quite good, my father bought me my first motorcycle.
With the help of my coaches Tolo Coll, my uncle, and my mochi, who has been my father ever since, in 2005 I was proclaimed Champion of the Balearic Islands in 50 cc. From that day I knew that this was going to be a long time and the truth is that now I wouldn’t know how to live without trial.
I have participated in all the regional competitions, also in the Spanish championships that I have been able to, because living on an island makes it quite difficult for us to move and economically. These last two years the truth is that in the Spanish championship I have not come out very well, because due to a broken bike and a loss of my backpacker I had to retire. In spite of everything , I’m going to keep trying and having the best time possible.

INTERVIEW
TRIALWORLD: Tell us about your plans for 2011.
THOMAS OLIVER: Participate in the Balearic and Spanish championships, finishing in a good position
TW: How do you organize yourself to reconcile training and studies?
TO: Currently I study at the institute only in the mornings, so I have the afternoons off and I combine school work days with the training that I usually do near home with other teammates from the club.
TW: Tell us what your training is like during a normal week of class and what it’s like in another week when there’s a race on the weekend.
TO: Normally I only train three days and if there is a race we add a few more hours.
TW: Is it necessary to complement motorcycle training with physical preparation or is it not so important at your age?
TO: At our age it’s quite important, especially because we need a lot of stamina.
TW: Where do you think is the key and the difference between a young guy who starts doing trials to have fun and another who wants to be a professional?
TO: Those who want to be professionals must take it very seriously and train a lot and those who start must start with the basics.
TW: What do you like most about racing?
TO: The good atmosphere there is and the many friends I have made.
TW: Anything that doesn’t convince you?
TO: The few places that allow us to train and do trials.
TW: Would you like to dedicate yourself professionally to Trial or do you think it is a good springboard to do other off-road specialties? See Mario Román…
TO: It’s the specialty that I like the most, so I want to dedicate myself to trial.
TW: What do you think of the rulebook? Do you think it favors the arrival of young promises?
TO: I think it’s good because the riders can choose the zones according to their level.
TW: Do you do a lot of media to stand out in Trial or does the skill of the rider and his perseverance in training count more?
TO: I think what the pilot does counts more.
TW: Finally, tell us where you would like to go in the world of Trial and in what timeframe you would like to achieve it.
TO: To ask that it not remain, I would like one day to become world champion, like everyone else.
