Toni Bou wins the Sheffield Indoor Trial with Raga and Busto on the podium

The Sheffield Indoor Trial is one of the most emblematic events on the indoor trial calendar, although it has not been held under the umbrella of the X-Trial World Championship for years. In other words, it is not a race that counts towards a competition and its attraction is the great spectacle that surrounds it.

This expectation grew with the fact that Adam Raga made his debut with SHERCO, the brand where the Tarragona rider wants to remain active after his departure from TRRS. Just a few days after starting his training with the 2024 SHERCO ST FACTORY 300, Raga felt ready to compete in his first competition and all the attention was focused on seeing his level of competitiveness, which did not disappoint.

The drivers’ line-up in Sheffield was luxurious. Toni Bou, Jaime Busto, Gabriel Marcelli, Toby Martyn, Miquel Gelabert, Harry Hemingway, Billy Green and Adam Raga.

In the first duel Raga beat Green, Gabriel Marcelli beat the young Hemingway, Bou beat Busto and Toby Martyn did the same with Miquel Gelabert. This last tandem was the most even of the pairings.

The grand final was held between four riders: Bou, Busto, Marcelli and Raga. With the score at zero, the expectation was maximum among the home public. With three zones to go, Bou was leading the race solidly with two points, eight ahead of Raga and eleven behind Busto and Marcelli. Then Busto and Bou improved their times, with Raga stabilizing on the podium and Marcelli dropping off the podium.

With the victory in favor of Bou assured, the excitement was in the fight for the podium, where Raga got his first box with Sherco and Jaime Busto completed the positions of honor, just one point behind.

In the coming weeks, the French International Indoor Cup will continue to be held, with visits to Toulouse and Strasbourg, and then the Barcelona X-Trial, which will officially open the 2024 indoor season.

The third final place went to Jaime Busto (GasGas) who started the final very well as he went to zero in the first zone while Bou and Marcelli took a point each, but, from there, he added five in the remaining five sections and lost all chance of fighting for the victory with his two rivals.

Aniol Gelabert (Beta), who scored the third best score in the Second Round, qualified fourth, just one point ahead of Adam Raga (TRRS), who was unable to return to the podium he last topped in Bordeaux. Behind him was Benoit Bincaz (Sherco) who achieved sixth place, beating Toby Martyn (Montesa) for having invested less time than him as they finished tied on points.

Rookie Hugo Dufrese (GasGas) picked up the two points in eighth place and Italian Luca Petrella (GasGas), who replaced the injured Matteo Grattarola, closed the standings.

At the end of the podium ceremony, Bou received the trophy that accredits him as the 2023 X-Trial World Champion.
