New range of Hebo DEFENDER 2020 trial protections

The field of protections for the trial rider is, possibly, the aspect where the modest sector of trial equipment is having the most evolution.

For two seasons now, it has been mandatory to use a
trellis in the Trial World Championship
, something that activated the brands and generated an interesting reflection on how a
trial protection
should be, without simply inheriting what happens in enduro.

Hebo was one of the pioneers in launching its trellis, called the XTR. A nomenclature that soon changed for reasons of competition (Shimano) and was renamed Defender. In itself it was the same protection, but with a different design. Here, the longitudinal closure was also introduced to facilitate the placement of this protection. As for the variants of the model, there were only two:
vest, with chest and back protection
, and jacket, which also encompasses shoulders and elbows.

In 2020, the commitment has been even more important. The new range, which retains the Defender name, but with the surname 2.0, changes inside and out. The protection, which maintains its elasticity and absorption properties, now changes its shapes, being smaller and elongated, in search of greater comfort and agility. It’s also lighter.
Another novelty is that a new model is introduced, called
Hebo Race 2.0, with protection only on the back
and without a longitudinal zipper. This is the one used by professional riders such as Toni Bou or Adam Raga.

The standard

remains in the catalog, with protection for both chest and back, as well as the jacket version, with shoulder pads and elbow pads. In this case, they do have a longitudinal zipper for easier placement. All these protections are removable. The sizes, in all the above cases, are in a group of two sizes: XS-S / M-L or XL-XXL.

CHILDREN’S TRIAL AND ENDURO PROTECTIONS

Finally, it should be noted that since last year we have also had in our catalogue the
trial protections for children
, called
Hebo Defender PAD Junior
, available in both vest and jacket format. The size range is from 3 to 11 years approximately. The sizes also go in a group of two sizes, in this case children’s: XS-S / M-L or XL-XXL.

OUR IMPRESSIONS

For more than 3 years, the entire Trialworld team has been training and racing with back protection. What may seem like discomfort at first, turns into an extra confidence and you discover that when you warm up you hardly feel like you’re wearing it.
The compound of this Defender protection gains flexibility as the rider provides body heat, so it fits perfectly with the rider’s physique. In the case of the Hebo Defender, the best thing is its material. On the one hand, it is the only one on the market that uses a completely breathable fabric, so in summer it does not provide excessive heat. Also noteworthy is the elastic adjustment of the waist with silicone, which allows a perfect fit.

The most important decision is to know what type of protection best suits your needs. It is interesting to know that all these protections can be removed in a second, so that a jacket could become only a back protector, or add elbow pads, shoulder pads…
The simplest and lightest version is the Race, with only a trellis. Probably the most interesting is the Defender 2.0, with additional front protection for forward chest strikes.
