MONTESA COTA 300RR 2017 ENGINE

The Cota 300RR is equipped with an engine based on the one used by the Montesa of Eddie Karlsson and Oriol Noguera, who participate in the Trial World Championship with the support of the brand.
For this year, the Cota 300RR has new maps on the ECU that improve the response of the engine, especially at low and medium revs, precisely the area where the trial bike usually moves. The piston with three rings instead of two also contributes to the improvement of the engine’s response, thus preventing any leakage and improving durability.

In addition, the piston head has been redesigned, which is now flatter, improving combustion efficiency at low revs. Lightening the piston also helps to reduce engine vibrations. The cylinder has also been redesigned to adjust it to the new piston, always in search of an improvement in the efficiency of the engine (especially at low and medium revs) and its character, achieving sensations and performance closer to the competition bike.

When work began on the Cota 300RR project last season, the development team worked on two key aspects: increasing power and lightening the whole package. To do this, the thermodynamic unit was equipped with a new engine that stands out for a notable increase in displacement, based on increasing the bore and also the stroke of the piston, an aspect that achieves a remarkable increase in torque and power, especially in the mids, maintaining its well-known smoothness of response in the bass.

All in all, the increase in power, the reduction of engine braking, the reduction in weight of the assembly and the suspensions, made the bike in general feel faster, more powerful, lighter and easier to ride, characteristics of vital importance in a model with a clear racing orientation.
