Laia Sanz begins title defence

laia_gg_400Sanz’s Poker continues. This time it’s time to defend the women’s trial world title, a competition that starts this weekend in Andorra and will end at the end of September in Switzerland. The KH-7 rider aims to achieve victory in the Pyrenean race, which would mean taking the first step towards being crowned for the 12th time as queen of trial.

It is not the only challenge that the Spanish multi-champion has, who this year has set herself the poker of titles. To achieve this unprecedented challenge in international motorcycling, He must conquer the four major competitions in which he will participate – or has participated – this year:the Dakar, an event in which he won in mid-January; the Trial World Championship, which kicks off this weekend; the European Trial Championships, in which he has already made his debut with a triumph; and the Enduro World Championship, which he leads after claiming three wins in four races.

After more than a month dedicated to enduro, Laia Sanz has had to work hard to change her mindset and prepare in a very short time for her participation in the Andorra Trial Grand Prix. The company from Corbera de Llobregat has carried out several tests with the intention of improving the suspensions of its Gas Gas and adapting the mechanics to the altitude of the Principality.

Last weekend, he took part in a men’s trial world championship held in Peñarroya (Córdoba), to regain the sensations of competition. She was the only girl in a demanding race that ended with a heavy fall for the Catalan. He bruised his shoulder, lower back and buttocks, and decided to quit as a precaution. Laia is not injured, although she does have discomfort.

“Half of my body still hurts, but now is not the time to be aware of the discomfort. Now it’s time to perform at our best and try to get the victory in both races to leave the world championship in good shape. I’m looking forward to it because it’s a very important weekend in which there are many things to see. After several weeks focused on enduro, I had very little time to prepare for this trial and get the feeling. You have to keep in mind that while I was doing enduro, my rivals were training hard in the trial, so I’m sure they’ll push. The important thing is not to make mistakes and to hang in there psychologically.”Laia explains.

At the moment, the KH-7 rider already has a queen in her hand after winning the 2012 Dakar, she has three more to complete the poker. The European Trial Championship and the Enduro World Championship are on the right track. This week, it’s the turn of the trial world championship, where the rider from Corbera will once again give it her all, as if she were looking for her first crown without thinking about the 23 titles she already has behind her: 11 in the trial world championship, 10 in the European trial championship and 2 victories in the Dakar Rally.
