The SPEA RFME Spanish Trial Championship 2017 has returned to activity this weekend in the Barcelona town of Sant Corneli de Cercs, one of the industrial engines of northern Catalonia thanks to the exploitation of its coal mines until the beginning of the century.
Located just 25 minutes from Cal Rosal and Olvan, venues between 2009 and 2015 of the last CET race, Sant Corneli was until now an unprecedented setting for the National. However, the MC Baix Berguedà, the organizer of this II Sant Corneli Trial, already successfully tested it last season on the occasion of the Catalan Open Championship of the specialty.
Today, Saturday, the first of its two days was held and for the first time so far in 2017 the 12 official categories of the CET have taken the start. That is, TR1, TR2, TR3, TR4, Junior, Cadet, Female A, B and C, Youth A and B, and Veteran. No less than 108 riders took part in this fifth race of the year.
The route of the race, close to 9 kilometres, has had a total of 22 sections (12+10) to be overcome on two occasions. Women’s B and C, as well as Youth A and B, and Veteran, have only had to face ten. The rest of the categories, the usual 12.
Toni Bou (Montesa-HRC) took the win, ahead of Jeroni Fajardo (Vertigo), second, and Jaime Busto (Montesa-HRC), third. The current TR1 leader has added his fourth consecutive win of 2017 and continues to this day without defeat in the domestic competition.
Bou has closed the first pass through the zones with a penalty of 8 points, while in the second entry into the same –TR1 It is the only category in which its riders pass through the same area twice in a row before tackling the next one – it has barely added 5 more points to its locker. Fajardo, on the other hand, has qualified second after finishing with 13 and 8 points, respectively. Busto, on the other hand, needed 16 and 6 points to take the last place on the podium.
