Grattarola and Busto dominate at the European Championships

GrattarolaThroughout the past weekend, the fourth round of the European Tria l Championshipwas held in the Czech town of Tanvald. On Saturday, the Youth and Women’s categories kicked off, while on Sunday the absolute category took the stage, along with the Juniors and Veterans +40. In the premier class we attended a new driving recital by Mateo Grattarola.

The Italian rider, who counts his performances as victories, sealed the race from the first lap after scoring a spectacular five-point run, while his closest pursuers, Kroustek and Poli, accumulated eleven points at this halfway point of the race. Grattarola was able to maintain this high pace throughout the day and finished with a total of 13 points. His rivals maintained the same positions as in the first lap, scoring 26 and 32 points, respectively. The best Spanish rider was Pere Borrellas, who was just one point off the podium.

Grattarola continues to lead the provisional standings with only two races remaining. Behind him, a nice fight for the runner-up spot between Daniele Maurino and Matteo Poli, both in a handkerchief of only four points. Borrellas is fourth, eight points behind Poli.

Fantastic race and victory for Jaime Busto in Juvenil. The young Spanish rider is one of the most promising players in our academy and in Tanvald he delighted again with his riding. Superb victory with only 3 points on their scorecard, 14 for Giarba and 20 for Kadlec.

In the Women’s category , as we announced in Trialworld, Laia Sanz was a last-minute withdrawal due to the impossibility of recovering from her foot injury. The multi-time champion is nearing the end of her recovery, but her appearance at this European Championship event was too forced. In his absence, Becky Cook (5 pts) won resoundingly, followed by Bristow (11 pts) and Juffet (30 pts).

In Junior the race was much tighter. Final victory for Cabrini -22 pts-, followed by Lundevold -24 pts- and Myohanen -28 pts-.

In the Veterans +40 category, the victory went to the legendary driver Tomi Ahvala, who beat Marco Reit by just one point. The podium was completed by John Van Veelen.

The next event will be in the French town of Isola 2000 on September 2nd.
