Gas Gas emerged after the disappearance of Bultaco due to financial problems, when two of its agents, Narcís Casas and Josep Pibernat, found themselves with a store but no product to sell and decided to embark on a project to manufacture trial bikes to sell in their store.
Gas Gas has been manufacturing and selling motorcycles since 1985. It is one of the world’s leading brands in the trial bike market and is also at the top of the enduro sector. The brand is known for its high-quality product and continuous research and technical development. Most of the Gas Gas models are still manufactured in the Salt factory.
Gas Gas started manufacturing trial bikes in 1985, enduro and motocross bikes in 1989 and quad bikes in 2002.
In the summer of 2000, the company began an ambitious expansion project, which included the construction of a new modern factory. After nearly ten months of work, on May 2, 2001, the new plant officially opened its doors and the first motorcycle of the new era of Gas Gas came out of its main assembly line: an Enducross 250 two-stroke.
Since then, the brand has been adapting all its departments to the new facilities, so that the Salt warehouse is now practically one hundred percent operational.
The Gas Gas Halley 325 of 1986 was the first model manufactured by Gas GasThe new plant was built on an area of more than 8,000 square meters, representing an investment of close to 5,600,000 euros.
The 4,000 m² that Gas Gas previously occupied in Fornells de la Selva have been refurbished and today are the headquarters of the brand’s competition department.
GAS GAS IN TRIALS
In 19922 Gas Gas manufactured nearly 14,000 motorcycles, of which approximately 10,000 were destined for export (especially to France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, the American Southern Cone and Germany). About 60% of this figure were two- and four-stroke enduro units.
In 1993, Gas Gas managed to attract multiple trial world champion Jordi Tarrés from Beta. He immediately began to reap triumphs with his new team, winning three consecutive trial world championships (1993, 1994 and 1995).
Subsequently, Gas Gas has won the Outdoor Trial World Championship twice (2005 and 2006) with Adam Raga.
The brand also won the championship in Indoor in the years in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, also with Raga.
It is also worth mentioning the awards in the Spanish Trial Championship in the manufacturers’ section and two in riders, with Adam Raga himself, Jordi Tarrés and Amós Bilbao as protagonists.
