Fujinami renews with Honda until 2015

Fuji 14StaticJust a few days after Toni Bou was extended to remain a Honda rider until 2018 , news has arrived about the future of his teammate, Takahisa Fujinami, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the current campaign. Yesterday it was confirmed that Fujinami will continue to be Toni Bou’s teammate at least until the end of next season, at which time he will celebrate 20 years as a rider in the Trial World Championship.

ABOUT TAKAHISA FUJINAMI

Fujinami made his debut at the age of 16 in the Trial World Championship in 1996, and the following year, at the San Marino GP, he took the first of his 32 World Championship victories. The last of these was obtained in the opening race of this 2014 season, in Australia. Fujinami is the active rider with the highest number of podiums in the Trial World Championship: 150. Fujigas rides a Cota 4RT, the leading bike in the manufacturers’ classification in the World Championship, a championship that Montesa (Honda) has won for the last eight years in a row.

DECLARATIONS

Takahisa Fujinami: “I am very happy with this announcement of renewal by the Repsol Honda Team for another year. Since I was 16 years old I have a professional contract with Honda and with them I will celebrate 20 years in the World Championship. It is, for this reason, that I am very pleased to be able to continue with the brand. Renewing the contract at this stage is something very important for me and it is, without a doubt, one more motivation to continue competing. I’m also happy with the renewal of Toni Bou, the team’s number one and a great friend. This is a great team, the best in the World Cup.”

Shuhei Nakamoto – HRC Vice President: “We are very happy that Takahisa Fujinami will continue to race for the Repsol Honda Team. As you know, Takahisa has been competing in the Trial World Championship for 19 years, and is the only Japanese rider who has consistently fought for the World Championship. He is an unusual competitor, who has great skill and an iron will: this season he has won the first day in Australia and finished third on the first day of the Japanese Grand Prix despite a knee injury. He will continue to race next season for us and for all motorsport fans around the world.”
