Fujinami: “Gabriel has improved a bit compared to other seasons, but I expected more”

Gabriel Marcelli is about to complete his first season with the official Repsol Honda Team, where he has shared a team with Toni Bou, World Champion in both disciplines in 2022.

Gabriel Marcelli, fifth in TrialGP and X-Trial 2022, has experienced a profound improvement as a rider and athlete, having climbed the podium in both the X-Trial World Championship and the Spanish Trial Championship, while in TrialGP his best result is having been fourth on four occasions, scoring a total of 109 points.

This is one of the best results for a teammate of Toni Bou in the official Repsol Honda Team, which makes clear the talent and potential success of Gabriel Marcelli.

His predecessor in the team, Takahisa Fujinami, scored 93 points and was sixth in the 2021 TrialGP World Championship.

Fujinami took the reins as Team Manager of the team in 2022, after announcing his retirement as a professional driver. She added Marcelli to the first team, who had already shown her potential on a Montesa in 2019, winning the Trial2 World Championship, and both in 2020 and 2021, where she was the second Montesa to qualify after Toni Bou.

TEAM MANAGER RATING

Fujinami’s assessment of Gabriel Marcelli’s season is as follows: “Gabriel, in his first year as a driver of the team, has improved a little bit over the previous seasons, but it is also true that he expected a little more. I am confident that next year I will already be one of the regular riders on the podium and will improve this season’s standings even further.”
