Dougie Lampkin makes Scottish 2014 history

Lampkin SSDT

Dougie Lampkin continues to make history after scoring his eighth victory in the Six Days of Scotland, the most mythical, longest and most demanding race to be held on a Trial bike.

Lampkin’s victory comes exactly 20 years after his first victory in this competition, which he subsequently abandoned for a decade to focus on the Trial World Championship as a professional rider.

During this edition of this century-old race, Lampkin has not given his rivals a break, staying at the top of the standings during the six days of the race and withstanding the strong pressure of his main rival, James Dabill, until the last moment.

In the end, there was an eight-point difference between the two favourite riders, who quickly broke away from the rest of the rivals and staged a fantastic fight. The podium was completed by Sam Connor, ahead of World Championship riders such as Michael Brown (5th), Jack Sheppard (12th) and Eddie Karlsson (37th).

Among the Spanish riders, the first classified was Jordi Pascuet, an institution in long-term races and always a contender for victory. On this occasion, Jordi had SSDT from less to more that allowed him to finish in a meritorious sixth position. The next Spaniards were Francesc Moret (15th) and Jordi Picola (24th).

LAMPKIN THE TENACIOUS

The award-winning British rider prepared well for the 2014 SSDT, Probably the most important race of the year on his agenda. Immersed in the Vertigo project, a new Trial bike that will see the light of day in the coming months, The 38-year-old Lampkin trained long hours in the hills of North Yorkshire and the result could not have been more satisfying.

It all started with a three-way tie on Monday with Dabill and Connor , which would be resolved on Tuesday in favor of Lampkin, giving way to a very tough third day , marked by adverse weather conditions, with a lot of rain and mud, where he would accumulate the first points on his card.

On Thursday the time improved and the records in the Scottish areas were maintained, leaving the classification unchanged. However, everything would be very different on Friday, where Dougie would lose 7 points after losing control of the handlebars in one of the multiple waterfalls that allowed Dabill to close the gap. All this left a very exciting Saturday, where the serenity of the multi-champion was evident when he managed to increase the advantage by five points with his closest pursuer, James Dabill.

According to Dougie Lampkin: “It’s no secret how much this race means to me and my family, so I’m very proud to have achieved victory. I hope to defend the title again in 2015 at the controls of the Vertigo. Finally, I would like to thank all the controls and staff who have made this race possible.”
