Recently, Dani Comas, 10-time BikeTrial World Champion, announced his departure from the well-known Jitsie brand, with the intention of starting new projects. One of these projects is the creation of a new BikeTrial competition team, which has already been seen last weekend in Alcalá de Guadaíra.
The UCI Spanish Trial Championship held in Seville has been the event chosen to officially present the new biketrial team TEAM COMAS & WD-40. The team, made up of pilots Rafa Tibau and Domènec Lladó, has the official backing of WD-40 as main sponsor. Dani Comas himself is the founder and Team Manager, as well as having Cesar Cañas as technical support.
Dani Comas briefly explains this new stage that begins:
“As I said, my intention is to continue linked to the world of trial and here is the first step, the creation of TEAM COMAS & WD-40. I am very happy for this new project and what better way than to make our debut in the Spanish Championship. I congratulate Domènec Lladó for the race he did, taking into account the existing situation and for having fought until the end to get the podium. I know what it’s like to compete injured and that’s why I really appreciate all the effort he’s put in. I would also like to thank Cesar Cañas for his collaboration in the team and especially WD-40 for trusting me in this new project, as well as all the people who are helping us to take the project forward. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage Rafa Tibau in his speedy recovery, as we have missed him and we hope to have him back with us very soon.”
In their first appearance, the COMAS & WD-40 team could not count on the participation of Rafa Tibau, since during the last Catalan Cup held in Girona he was injured.
A circumstance that has kept him away from the competition for a season. However, the COMAS & WD-40 team had the great participation of Doménec Lladó. Who, despite an injury caused in one of his training sessions prior to the championship, has been able to fight until he gets on the podium. Achieving an excellent third place as the final result.
Domènec Lladó tells us about his experience, after his first appearance as an official rider of Team COMAS & WD-40.
“It was a very tough race, because last Tuesday I suffered a fall on my back that left me touched, which caused me to stop fighting for the victory and start a battle against pain. Little by little, in the warm-up area, the sensations were getting better, which made me start to be competitive and be able to fight to try to make a decent result. In the end I got a very good third position despite the circumstances, which I narrowly saved the weekend. Above all, I would like to thank the work of the whole team, who did not leave a single detail and did everything perfectly, something that without them I probably would not have been able to do so. Now it’s time to recover to be at the top of our game in the next World Cup.”
TEAM COMAS & WD-40 will compete again on July 8 and 9 in Austria, where the second round of the UCI Trial World Cup will be held.
