Bou’s epic one-two, Raga resists and Marcelli surprises at the Spanish GP

Toni Bou adds a double victory in the 2020 Spanish Trial Grand Prix, held this weekend in Pobladura de las Regueras (León), where in general terms he comes out reinforced from his leadership, while Adam Raga, third and second in León, keeps the championship alive by moving up one position in the provisional standings. Jaime Busto, second and sixth, drops slightly, but still has a chance of the title.

Motorcycle Trial Offers

After the running of the new regulations (time controls and number of laps) in the French GP and the corresponding adjustments for León, the riders arrived at Pobladura de las Regueras with just six days of rest between the two GPs. The most decisive thing is that Toni Bou arrived with a lot of bruises on his arm; Let’s remember that on the second day in France he suffered ramps in his right arm and loss of strength. Its performance, therefore, was unknown.

TONI BOU, EFFORT AND SACRIFICE

Aware that he would probably suffer more on the second day, on Saturday he went out to give it his all. Such an effort in a hard trial, with little grip and unstable terrain, showed a magical riding and was 21 points ahead of the second classified, Jaime Busto. The third step on the podium went to Adam Raga, who kept his splits very regular between all the laps.

GABRIEL MARCELLI, THE REVELATION OF THE “ROOKIE”

On Sunday, things were much more even. On the first lap Raga took the lead, but it would be Bou who would end up leading the entire lap. From there, the rider from Montesa concentrated on managing the advantage over his rivals well and improving lap by lap. Finally, another victory for the reigning defending champion, followed by Raga and completing the podium with a brilliant rookie, Gabriel Marcelli. Busto, sixth, was seven points off the podium, a result that does not help him maintain the tension of the fight for the title in such a short championship, but that does not rule him out either.

GRATTAROLA TAKES ADVANTAGE, GELABERT DEBUTS

In Trial2, victories for Matteo Grattarola on Saturday and for Aniol Gelabert on Sunday. This causes a change of leader, as Alex Ferrer, leader after the French GP, gave up too much on Sunday. Therefore, we are facing an intense world championship in the fight for third place on the podium, with Matteo already outstanding at the head of the standings with a 17-point advantage.

PAU MARTINEZ, ON COURSE FOR THE TITLE IN 125

In Trial 125, the absolute dominance of Pau Martínez is maintained, who counts his participations by victories and, if there are no surprises, he is the great candidate for the new world title. The only one who can come close to his pace is the Frenchman Giraud, fourth and second in Pobladura de las Regueras.

EMMA BRISTOW MAINTAINS HER DOMINANCE

As for the women, another triumph for Emma Bristow, with the same podium on both days: Sandra Gómez second and Berta Abellán third. And in Trial2 Women, victories for Andrea Rabino and Alicia Robinson. Rabino is now the leader of the provisional one, followed by Monnier and Robinson.

The Trial World Championship continues with its activity in Andorra, the third Grand Prix of the season and the fifth and sixth scoring races. The Andorran event already marks what the second half of the championship represents.
