Bou National Indoor Trial Champion

bou_titulo_460_2Toni Bou is now officially the 2011 Spanish Indoor Trial Champion, a title he has won for the fifth consecutive year and which adds to the long list of trophies he treasures, which also includes five Indoor World Championships and as many outdoor World Championships.

After the celebration of the events in Zaragoza and Girona, within the Spanish Indoor Trial Championship, the third round has been cancelled , so Toni Bou mathematically achieves this classification, having been proclaimed champion in both competitions.

For his part, Albert Cabestany is runner-up in Spain 2011, a position he achieves for the fourth consecutive year and which confirms him as Bou’s great rival. Alongside him, Adam Raga , who also aspires to dethrone the seemingly unbeatable five-time world champion; But he had to settle for third place in the National Championship standings. Raga and Cabestany kept the tension and fought for second place until the last moment, something that was decided in an exciting race in pairs during the celebration of the last Girona Indoor Trial. Therefore, only one point separates the two in the final standings.

Several Championship riders finished tied at 6 points: Fajardo, Tarrès, Moret and Borrellas. However, given that the regulations prioritise the rider who obtains the best result in the last round held, fourth place went to Jeroni Fajardo, despite the fact that he was only present at the Girona test; and fifth place for the debutant Pol Tarrès who, after earning a place in the premier category on his own merits (having been Champion of the CETI Junior Challenge 2010), has shown that he has the potential to grow in this specialty and equalled the fifth absolute place he already achieved last year. There was anticipation to see Pol about JTG, which we already saw in this recent video.

Pere Borrellas , also from the Junior Championship but as a wild card, finished sixth; while fellow junior Francesc Moret was seventh.

Behind, Iván Peydró was eighth and Alfredo Gómez completed the classification in ninth position.

Toni Bou: “Although it may seem otherwise, winning a championship made up of only two rounds is not easy at all. Before starting the Girona Indoor I doubted the chances of a third race, so I had a lot at stake there as I was fully aware that a mistake could lead to the loss of the title. Hence, he gives great value to having revalidated the championship. Both the Indoor Championships in Zaragoza and Girona had a high level of difficulty, so in the championship there has not been a lot of tests but there has been a lot of quality, a factor that I also take into account when evaluating this new title. This is the fourth title I’ve won this season. The last one is still at stake, that of the Spanish Outdoor Trial Championship, which will be decided next Sunday. It would be perfect to conquer it and get the full house.”
