Andorra GP D1: Toni Bou remains unstoppable

podio_andorra12Toni Bou maintains a solid dominance in the 2012 Outdoor Trial World Championship and proof of this is that on the first day of the Andorran GP he scored his eighth victory of the year, out of a possible nine.

At first, the multiple champion was suffering from severe discomfort in his left femoral biceps, caused in a fall last Saturday during the Spanish GP. However, this did not prevent the Piera rider from achieving victory in a race where he went from less to more, achieving an impressive closing lap with only one penalty point.

Throughout this first day of the GP, Bou has taken it back with a very motivated and fit Fajardo. The Beta rider dominated the competition after the first lap, penalizing two additional points on the second; The balance of the work has been very positive, but it is still not enough to overtake the number one driver.

Despite this, Fajardo has taken a big step forward in the provisional standings , as both Raga and Cabestany have been left off the podium , allowing him to open up a slight five-point lead over Raga, who is now third with only four scoring rounds left to play.

The third place finisher was Takahisa Fujinami , who, like Bou, is still recovering from injury. The Japanese rider was very consistent throughout the race, keeping his pursuer, Adam Raga, who was fourth, in check. With this, there are now five races where Raga has been left out of the places of honor.

Cabestany, fifth, didn’t have his best day either. However, it could have been worse, as Dabill put in a fantastic performance and finished the race just one point behind the Tarragona native.

JUNIOR

In Junior we attended a new recital by Alexandre Ferrer who, like Bou, accumulates eight victories out of a possible nine. The big surprise, again, has been Jorge Casales. Impressive career of the Galician rider, demonstrating a maturity and technique in his riding worthy of a rider with more age and experience. His perseverance and good manners have led him to an extraordinary second place, finishing just two points behind Ferrer.

Pol Tarrés, fourth, was on the verge of the podium after an excellent second lap. On the other hand, it was a bad day for the provisional runner-up, Francesc Moret, who finished tenth and lost a good part of his advantage over Tarrés in the provisional standings.

In the women’s category, a sensational victory for Laia Sanz and a podium for the rider from Madrid, Sandra Gómez.

Toni Bou: “It was a tough day, with pain in my injured leg and two fiascos on the first lap that made things difficult for me. The second lap was key to achieving this victory that I consider very important and that I celebrated with more joy than on other occasions. It remains to be seen what happens tomorrow, as I feel sore, but today couldn’t have ended better.”

Takahisa Fujinami: “I felt good and confident throughout the first lap, which I finished tied with Toni. In the second I made some mistakes but without further consequences, since the important thing was to be able to get on the podium and I achieved it. The doctor did a good job and so did the team, with a magnificent set-up of the bike.”

Laia Sanz: “I’m very happy with the result. It’s always very important to get off to a good start and today we did that. The truth is that everything went very well and I think we had a good result. Although last week’s crash was very spectacular and I didn’t really know if I would have any discomfort, I finally felt good and I didn’t notice from last Saturday’s crash. I hope to continue in this good vein tomorrow and be able to get my second win.”
