Electric Motion continues its deep establishment in the trial motorcycle market, establishing the electric alternative as an option perfectly comparable to an explosion motorcycle in terms of performance and equipment.

The Escape range is reconfigured for 2022. The Escape Lite disappears and the Escape (the model in question) and the Escape R (with mechanical clutch) remain. As for the novelties, in addition to the new settings of power maps and ergonomics of its keypad, this model receives a traction control system so far unheard of in a trial bike. For context, the Electric Motion Escape has the same foundation as the EPure, but with nuances. It receives a larger and taller battery (2.6 Kw vs. 1.9 Kw), which is perfect for setting up a riding position with a comfortable seat and also gaining an hour of wheel autonomy in motion compared to the EPure.

In this way, the rider can sit at any time, or stand with a position practically identical to the trial bike. The advantage, in addition to the aforementioned comfort, is that it gives it a more versatile use, even urban, and accessible to all audiences.

As with the EPure, this battery can be completely detached in a few minutes to charge outside the bike itself. An interesting aspect if, for example, the motorcycle is stored in a place without electrical power or is temporarily inside a van or trailer. Regarding charging, we can have the battery at 100% capacity in just three hours if it were completely empty; If we had, for example, half the charge, in just over an hour we would have the bike fully operational.

In terms of electronics, the Escape receives slightly different maps than its predecessor, with the aim of increasing its performance. The map selector still offers three possibilities that can be managed at the touch of a button (even on the move).

The green map is the smoothest and delivers about 80% of the bike’s torque; The blue already delivers 100% of the torque and offers more power; and red, finally, is the most powerful. We could say, in comparative terms, that under the same bike you have a mechanic capable of emulating from a 125cc motorcycle to a 300cc at the push of a button.

The latest was the presentation of the first trial bike equipped with traction control. How does this system work on the Electric Motion Escape?

First things to say, it’s worth noting that this traction control is also offered on the 2022 Electric Motion EPure (standard model). This technical solution has been in development for two years and is mainly designed to help beginner or mid-level riders, as well as contributing very positively to advanced levels when riding in low-traction areas.

The system works with any of the three power maps (green, blue, and red). If we press the grey button, located at the top of the map display, this display begins to look intermittently. This indicates that traction control is engaged.

Dynamically the effect is the same as on any other bike with this system: the engine cuts traction when it detects a loss of grip. For example, a mid-level rider, in a river area, could ride on a red map with inaccuracies in the throttle stroke, which when this slippage is detected, the electronics will cut and prevent the bike from getting out of control.

As it is a system that is easily activated and deactivated, on the fly, the pilot decides how and when it is interesting to activate the electronic aid.

Undoubtedly, it is a step forward for lower-level pilots to be able to face more complicated passages with extra help in terms of efficiency and safety. It should be said that it is a system already included in the standard Escape and the standard EPure, strictly standard. It’s not an extra.

Approval and maintenance

The homologation of the Electric Motion in any of its models allows it to be driven with a B car license and two years of experience, or with an A1 license.

The Electric Motion is maintenance-free, except for periodic chain adjustment, greasing or wear elements such as brakes and wheels. Mechanically there is nothing to investigate, as there is no liquid cooling, no air filter, no pumps.

WHAT DOES THE ELECTRONIC CLUTCH LOOK LIKE?

The clutch of the Exhaust is electronic. This means that when you act it, it works on its electronics, not on its mechanics (as in the Escape R or the EPure Race), so you can stop the response of the engine by actuating it, but you can’t make the gesture of skidding the clutch at the same time as accelerating.

This electronic clutch can be configured to be a regenerative brake that provides dynamic charge to the bike’s battery.
