Toni Bou wins in Geneva

podiumgeneva480Toni Bou took his second consecutive victory in Geneva in the 2012 Indoor Trial World Championship after a spectacular night where he again had no rivals capable of putting him in trouble. The rider from Piera is proving to be unbeatable in the angular areas of the Indoor Trial , as was confirmed again in Geneva, making the difference in those more selective areas and beating all his rivals in the parallel races. A real spectacle.

The night started in Geneva with the qualifying round, where the younger drivers were looking for a place in the semi-finals. Among them, the Spanish rider Alfredo Gomez, without a team yet, who hoped to get rid of the thorn of Strasbourg and move on to the next round to continue learning in this type of area. However, this time it was not to be either. Alfredo would be in ninth place with 21 points, only with Dagnicourt from behind. Joining them were Challoner and Brown out of the next phase.

With Raga as the leader in this first round, the most exciting part began. Classified, in addition to the Tarragona driver, were Bou, Cabestany, Fujinami, Fajardo and Gubian. The latter two would be eliminated in the semi-final, leaving a final made up of the same riders who fought for victory in Strasbourg.

It didn’t take long for Bou to differentiate himself and set a superior pace. The pyramid area was where the differences ended up being accentuated, as no rider was able to overcome the entry step and Bou managed to do it. Cabestany also had a brilliant night, but with small mistakes that with a rider like Bou in front of him cannot be made to climb to the top. In spite of everything, the also Tarragona native knew how to stop a Fujinami with grit and desire to do well, with whom he was finally equal on points and overcame in the tiebreak.

pedrosa_bou400Bad night for Adam Raga in a night that, as he pointed out on his Twitter account, was marked by “A very complicated final.” In this way, Raga had a night from more to less, being out of the podium and losing rope in a championship that does not allow licenses or failures, since the level of competition is high and there are few tests, so he rewards regularity.

Toni Bou: “It has been a complicated trial, like all the ones in the World Championship, as there is always a lot at stake. In the final I was fortunate to have the slight difference acquired in the previous phase from the first moment. I knew I couldn’t afford to make mistakes, but the advantage I had, although small, was enough to face the decisive moments with confidence. Obviously, I’m very satisfied with this new win and this start to the season.”

Takahisa Fujinami: “In Strasbourg last week, I narrowly missed out on the podium and today I was not only able to achieve it, but I was very close to finishing second. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to get on the podium in an indoor that today’s I value it as if it were a victory. My start to the championship has been very positive and I will do everything possible to continue in this vein.”

Adam Raga: “Everything started well because we won the qualifying round and it looked like we could improve on last week’s result. However, the test was very complicated and I didn’t feel comfortable. The zones had no middle ground, as they were either impossible, or very easy. In fact, all of Bou’s pursuers were very close together until the end. The problem was when I made a mistake in one of the most feasible sections, as I could have been on the podium and even second. I tried, but this time almost nothing came of it. I’ll take away the work done in the qualifying round and the possibility of improving in Marseille.”
