Toni Bou closes in on title after victory in Great Britain

Toni Bou is now the leader of the TrialGP World Championship after his great victory in Great Britain. His Repsol Honda Team team-mate Takahisa Fujinami joined him on a podium completed by Adam Raga.
With the win in Tong, the Repsol Honda Team rider took his fifteenth victory in Great Britain and extends the gap at the top of the World Championship after the fifth event of the calendar.

Bou led the race from the start, and although after the first lap he was clearly dominating, with 8 points over the 16 of the second, on the second lap a couple of mistakes brought him closer to the scores of his rivals. The champion finished seven points ahead of his Repsol Honda Team teammate Takahisa Fujinami, who finished on the second step of the podium with a great second lap.

It was not an easy race for Adam Raga, as he had to overcome a major mistake in the first section of the day, loading him with a fiasco that forced him to manage the race with some stress to recover ground and at least secure the podium. Raga completed the first pass through the zones with 20 points, while a brilliant second lap with only 10 points finally put him in third position, just 2 points behind second-placed Takahisa Fujinami.
In Trial2 great victory for Francesc Moret, followed by Toby Martin and Iwan Roberts. This result allows Moret to climb to third position in the provisional classification and place himself just one point behind the Galician Gabriel Marcelli, both with options for the title of the category.
For Trial125 it was the last race of the year and the title went to Lorenzo Gandola.
The next round of the TrialGP World Championship will take place in Kingman, Arizona, United States, from 28 to 30 July.

DECLARATIONS

Toni Bou – P1

It wasn’t my turf, but I was comfortable… In the end, a mistake made me push hard to win the race. It was a very good trial, I felt very good and, after what happened in Andorra, here we got some good points for the championship. We’re happy for the United States, the next race, looking forward to more results like these…

Takahisa Fujinami – P2

I liked the terrain and despite a not too good result in qualifying, today I felt very good to look for a result. I tried to save the sections and I’m very happy with this podium with a double for the team and my third place in the championship. I had trained a lot for this race and I have to thank the team for the work they have done here.

Adam Raga – P3

Today’s result is positive for us. It was a relatively straightforward race that didn’t allow for too many mistakes, as it would be difficult to make a difference. I started the race badly with a fiasco in the first section, which stressed me out a lot during the race. I knew we were all very close in scoring. Finally I’m satisfied that I was at least able to get on the podium.

Jaime Busto – P6

I started quite well, until zone 8, when the bike stopped. Then, I made a few more mistakes and I wanted to finish the first lap to start the second better. I’m happy with how I went on this last lap because I improved a lot and, although I couldn’t finish on the podium, I think I did quite well.

Jordi Tarrés (TRS Team Manager):

It’s been a difficult and stressful race. Adam in the first section went through an arrow that he shouldn’t have and we dragged this fiasco throughout the race. The driving was very good, except for a few mistakes, and even in the end we thought we could improve this third place. In the rest of the categories it wasn’t a great day. In Trial2 it was very hotly contested, with Luca very close to the podium, but fifth, a shame as he is the highest ranked TRS rider. Marc, on the other hand, was not comfortable and scored more points than expected. Happy for Sam’s points. In Trial125 we had a bad day, with more mistakes than usual that prevented us from retaining third place in the championship, although we were happy with the performance of the TRRS 125 in its first year.

Miquel Cirera (Repsol Honda Team – Team Manager)

It’s a great result for the team and today Fujinami rode a great race, with the permission of Toni, who had a sensational first lap. Then, some mistakes that, as almost always, he was able to recover, he got the victory. Fujinami was in the front group, which wasn’t easy, and he did things well. Both are to be congratulated. Jaime was in the podium group, he did things well, but some mistakes that didn’t touch him, but as they say: racing is like that. We hope he gets back on the podium.
The United States will not be easy because of the conditions we will be in, but we will try to face the race in the best way. I would like to congratulate the whole team who have worked very well, but before the holidays, there is still an important piece of work to be done. Greetings to all.
