Stage 1 Dakar Laia Sanz Pº 80 +10:23

dakar_etapa1A sad start for the Dakar caravan in its first stage, where the Argentinian rider Jorge Martinez Boero, died after suffering a serious accident in the timed stage between Necochea and Energía. He died in the helicopter while being taken to Mar del Plata, according to the official organizers of the competition. The Trialworld team extends its deepest condolences. DEP.

With regard to the role of Laia Sanz in this first stage, we can describe it as conservative and prudent, given that in these early stages there is much more to lose than to gain. The rider finished the 57-kilometre special in 80th position, clocking a time of 43 minutes, 10:23 off the lead.

According to Laia: “There was a lot of dust and it was a very dangerous stage, with some traps and a very fast layout. The terrain was usually quite hard but suddenly changed to soft. Today was a day with a lot to lose and very little to gain, so Marc and I took it easy. The bike went very well. These days you don’t have to look at the standings and stay focused. The important thing is to get through the stages and not make mistakes.”
