Jaime Busto closes the X-Trial season with a victory in Andorra

Jaime Busto (Vertigo) was the star of the X-Trial in Andorra and added the victory that ended the streak of 15 consecutive victories in the World Championship held by Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Team Trial) since the X-Trial in Barcelona in 2019.

The 16-time World Champion was eager to celebrate the achievement of his new world title by closing the season with a new triumph in front of the 2,000 spectators who have experienced the race at the Poliesportiu d’Andorra in what he considers his home race, but Busto has prevented it with a very consistent riding that has led him to win by just one point and difference.

Busto, Bou and Adam Raga (TRRS) were the protagonists of the grand final after having been the best in the calculation of the first two rounds. In the last round of the fight for the win, the rider from Vertigo, who was opting for third place in the Championship standings, started by making differences in the second zone in which he penalized 2 points to the 5 of his rivals. Raga dropped out of the fight to win with a 2 in the third section and a 5 in the fourth and Bou went to zero in the last four sections while Busto added 2 more points in the fourth. The three-point advantage obtained in the second zone gave the Basque the margin of one point to seal a great performance and win the X-Trial of Andorra la Vella.

Until the final, Bou, who has been proclaimed World Champion to close the evening, had zeroed the 6 zones of the first round and the 6 of the second.

The first to be eliminated were Matteo Grattarola (Beta) with a fateful 5 in the last section of his route and Benoit Bincaz (Gas Gas). In the second, Haga (Beta), Marcelli (Montesa) and Martyn (TRRS) were eliminated. In the sum of the first two rounds Haga has totaled the same points as Raga, who has finished ahead of him and only 2 more than Marcelli and 3 more than Martyn, which gives an idea of the disputed what has been the last X-Trial of the 2022 season.

DECLARATIONS

JAIME BUSTO (P1)"The truth is that I didn't expect to get the win here as I arrived with very little chance of finishing third in the Championship, but the truth is that, already in the warm-up I felt very comfortable. In the first round I started nervous and I made some small mistakes but I felt good and both in the second and in the final I rode very comfortably and all this, combined with a small mistake by Toni, gave me the victory. I'm very happy with the win and the third place on the final podium of the season."

toni bou (P2)"Celebrating a new World Championship title competing on home soil and in front of my home crowd has been extraordinary. I think we put on a great show and a very competitive race in which I set the tone in the first two rounds by going to zero. I wasn't able to recover from the small mistake of the final and this circumstance, combined with Jaime's great riding today, didn't allow me to win, but the celebration of the title and the great show today are a great reward."

ADAM RAGA (P3)"I'm very happy to have secured the runner-up spot in the World Championship with my performance in this last round. Staying up year after year is tough and this result is once again the result of the effort of the whole team. It was a very close X-Trial, any mistake could lead to disaster, but after the first round I secured the runner-up and everything was different. I didn't perform at the highest level as I had discomfort in my arm but I'm satisfied with how things went."
