Borja Conejos 2022 UCI Trials World Cup Champion

After the first round of the 2022 UCI Trials World Cup, held in VIC, everything was to be decided in the second and final round, held on August 27 and 28 in the Danish city of Copenhagen.

Borja Conejos has won both races of the 2022 UCI Trials World Cup, the last in Copenhagen, winning with authority and removing the thorn of 2021, where he was runner-up.

BORJA CONEJOS ELITE 20" CHAMPION

In Elite 20″ the big favourite was Borja Conejos, Trialworld rider and reigning 2021 Trial World Champion. Although Borja started with the advantage of his provisional leadership after winning in Vic, the truth is that nothing had been said, since his main rival, Alejandro Montalvo, current UCI champion, was at a very high level. Already in the semi-finals we saw that, probably, the new title would be decided in small details and in the psychological component of being perfectly focused on all the steps.

According to Borja: “Before the start of the race I was very nervous (I usually put pressure on myself before an event like this), although I was able to handle the situation quite well and managed to calm down.” He started with a good rhythm in the first zone, and in the second, despite making some mistakes, he did not lose concentration. The next two were completely successful for Borja, which, together with specific mistakes by Alejandro, made Borja reach the last zone, the most difficult, with the need to score only 20 points to take the title.

Borja Conejos was successful and shone in this last area, taking 250 points and a well-deserved 2022 UCI title that gives him wings to seek in Abu Dhabi the renewal of his world championship crown.

Great Britain’s Charlie Rolls won silver (200 points) with Spain’s Alejandro Montalvo Milla third (also with 200 points).

VERA BARÓN, 2022 UCI TRIALS WOMEN CHAMPION

Vera Barón won the title in 2019, and in 2022 she has done it again, becoming the winner of the 2022 UCI Trial World Cup after winning the women’s category in Copenhagen.

The 18-year-old from Madrid dominated the event from the semi-finals to the final, scoring an incredible 290 points. That left her 90 points clear of arch-rival Nina Reichenbach (GER), with 16-year-old Swedish sensation Hilda Andersson in third.

JACK CARTHY CHAMPION IN ELITE 26"

Jack Carthy carved out his own history in Denmark this weekend by taking his 20th win in the UCI Trial World Cup and the UCI Trial World Cup overall. The 26-year-old Briton was in imperious form in Copenhagen as he racked up 240 points.

Frenchman Vincent Hermance, 38, proved that age is not a barrier to excellence, as he finished second with 210 points with Spain’s Daniel Baron Rodriguez third with 200 points.
