The great Amós Bilbao, Spanish Trial Champion in 1996 and one of the most important riders in the history of our sport, surprised us with his participation in the second and third scoring races for this 2020 edition, held in Pobladura de las Regueras.
Amós is not linked to top competition, but he continues to enjoy trial as a hobby during the weekends and collaborates with Montesa in the development of the trial range. Although it is true that in recent editions we have seen the Cantabrian rider in long-term races, such as the Six Days of Scotland or the Three Days of Santigosa.
DOUBLE PODIUM IN THE NATIONAL TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Talking to Amós, he told us that, as he had a license and none of the long-term legendary races were held, he decided to participate in this Leonese event at the controls of a
standard Montesa Cota 4RT 260
. He signed two second positions in the TR3 category and even led the second day until the halfway point of the race. The final winner of both days was Marc Horrach from the Balearic Islands.
“I expected to find more river areas, which suit my riding better, but the reality is that most of the course took place in dirt and stone areas, where the bike had to be placed a lot. I felt great and had fun on the bike. The result was also good, although I could have improved my scores even more.”
The Cantabrian considers this participation as something sporadic, with no commitments to follow the championship. Either way, it was a real pleasure and delight for all the fans to enjoy a driver with so much charisma.
