Toni Bou can add his 18th outdoor world title this coming Sunday in Cahors, France, which would be the 35th world title at the individual level if we take into account the indoor titles.
This season, Toni Bou has achieved a total of eight victories and a second position in the events held so far in the outdoor discipline.
To clinch the title in France, he will have to finish Sunday’s round ahead of teammate and second-placed Gabriel Marcelli.
This would mathematically give him the long-awaited title, since his distance in the general standings with the second would be more than 40 points, which are the same that will be at stake after the event in the French town.
In the event that Marcelli takes the victory or is ahead of Bou in Cahors, the achievement of the championship title would be delayed until the last round in Ripoll (Spain).
For his part, Gabriel Marcelli arrives with his batteries charged to the round in Cahors after the summer break.
Currently, the rider is second in the general standings, 9 points ahead of the third-placed rider, Jaime Busto, who will be looking forward to the win to cut those points that separate him from the runner-up position, which is the great objective of the GASGAS rider.
TONI BOU’S STATEMENTS:
“The truth is that after the break we face the race with a lot of enthusiasm, it will also be the first opportunity to win the title. We’ve had a good summer, we’ve been able to recover and now we’re getting ready to return to the highest level. Cahors is a race that I like a lot, they have many indoor style areas with a lot of public, so I would love to do a good result. We always have that pressure point when we can clinch the title, but we’ll focus on having a good race.”
