Raga strikes first at World Cup

raga_outdoor2012Maximum excitement at the start of the 38th edition of the Outdoor Trial World Championship. The first of the two scoring rounds in the French town of La Bresse has resulted in the Adam Raga’s victory by a difference of only two points over its main rival, Toni Bou. Albert Cabestany (24 zeros) completed the podium after winning the playoff for the highest number of zeros against Fajardo (21 zeros).

With Toni Bou imperiously dominant in Indoor territory, but showing more weaknesses in the open air , as he already showed in Lozoyuela, a career of excellent level began, but one that did not allow concessions or more mistakes than necessary.

Raga started the morning with the best partial of the whole day, with only two points, making it clear that he was the main candidate for victory. Toni Bou followed in his footsteps, scoring just one more point on his card in this first pass through the 15 zones.

The Trial was practically sentenced in the second section of the last lap , when Bou made a serious mistake that prevented him from closing the gap with his main rival, scoring again one point more than his rival and finishing the race two behind. In this way, Raga becomes the first winner of the 2012 Outdoor World Championship.

After the outstanding leading duo, Cabestany and Fajardo had a nice fight. The rider from Beta scored the best partial of the second lap -5 points-, but it was not enough to cut the advantage of 7 points that the Sherco rider put during the first pass to the zones. Finally, a tiebreaker by zeros in favor of Cabestany.

podio_france2102_400Further back we find Fujinami , in a lonely race, without references and far from fighting for the podium. Behind him, Dabill, Challoner, Grattarola and Brown. The latter two also had to solve their final score based on the number of zeros. Tenth was Oliveras in his return to the Trial World Championship.

In the Junior category, victory for Alexandre Ferrer, followed by Moret and a great Pol Tarrés recently recovered from his wrist injury. The next Spanish rider was Jorge Casales, eighth.

In the Youth category, victory for Steven Coquelin, followed by Cox and in third place the Spanish rider Oriol Noguera.

Tomorrow, Sunday, the second scoring test will be held.

Toni Bou: “When you don’t win second place, it’s the best possible result. Obviously, I can’t be satisfied, but that’s the way it is. Adam was very strong and I made a big mistake in the second section of the second lap that conditioned me until the end, since technically the race was not very difficult and it was difficult to recover. If it doesn’t rain tomorrow, it will be an easy trial again, but for this reason it will not be without tension.”

Takahisa Fujinami: “I’ve done very badly. The draw that on this occasion has determined the starting order has not favoured me and I have entered the areas without references and without feeling comfortable. I lacked confidence and what is not normal is to end up loaded with so many points. I am confident that tomorrow things will change. I’ll start in the front group, I’ll have references and I’ll get to know the bike’s response better on this terrain of remarkable altitude.”
