It’s official: END of NONSTOP. The STOP regulations return to the World Cup

The 2024 TrialGP World Championship will not be governed by the NONSTOP regulations. In its place, the classic STOP regulation will return, which allows the rider to stop in the area, with a maximum time inside it.

The official statement reads as follows:

Following extensive consultations in collaboration with manufacturers and other parties, the FIM has aligned itself with most National Federations.

In a major change to the FIM TrialGP regulations, from 2024 riders will be allowed to stop and reverse in sections with a clearly defined time limit.

TrialGP has changed considerably in recent years and this forward-thinking approach is considered part of the natural evolution of Trial.

These new regulations bring TrialGP in line with the FIM X-Trial World Championship, which evolves towards a more demanding level of riding for riders and gives them the opportunity to demonstrate their skills.

This change in the rules will facilitate the conditions for zone controls on their courses, with the full and continuous support of the FIM.

Thierry Michaud, Director of the FIM Trial Commission, stated: “World conditions have changed considerably and the FIM’s approach is different from the previous decade.

“During the previous seasons, the FIM carried out numerous expert reports and consultations in order to improve these conditions and study solutions to modernize the discipline.

“Most of the constructors and a certain number of drivers have expressed their desire to have as much ‘freedom’ as possible to express their enormous technical capabilities in the zones with the main aim of putting on a show.

“To this end, the FIM has decided that its TrialGP organisations will focus primarily on the visibility and quality of the spectacle offered. Other measures such as the acceleration of the race pace, the separation of certain classes and other decisions to come – which will lead to greater dynamism of the Events – will go in this direction.”

The FIM is looking forward to an exciting 2024 season.

The regulations for the 2024 FIM Trial World Championship will be published in the coming days.
